Hi guys, with this one I wanted to have a go at making a bit more of a dynamic looking piece and make an excuse to buy some space wolf termies
All comments and criticisms welcome:

pretty sweet, but the only things that I see could be fixed are the OSL, it seems a bit to OTT, and maybe add some shells on the ground and in the air from the Assault cannon

Ever fired an assault cannon in the dark hallway of a derelict Spaceship? I have, and the muzzle flash is blinding...

Stunning diorama, I would make the muzzle brighter though, it's a little dark to be the source of light.

Also, I don't think any of us have had the opportunity to fire an assault cannon on a derelict spaceship.

You'd be surprised at the number of derelicts CT has fired an assault cannon in. He doesn't like to talk about it much, though.
And can you blame him? It's dark in there!

@OP
Great work!

I like the OSL, and I also agree with his suggestions of adding some shells, bullets, etc into the mix, it just looks like the hormagaunts have a very large red tumor on them.

In some pictures, the ceiling height looks taller than the termie but in others, it looks like he's too tall to fit in there but that's probably just the camera angles. I like it though and I also think the osl is great - if it was pitch black in there, i'm sure that it would light up like that. Really nice job!

Thats awesome! Besides the aforementioned shells the only thing I can see is maybe drilling holes in the bugs where theyve been hit. Took me a second to realize those were exit wounds since there dont appear to be any entry wounds.

Lets leave my ex-girlfriends out of this [cymbal crash]

So instead I'll sum up with a quote:

The horror! The horror!

back on topic: I think two things could make this piece better:

1. Spent shells being ejected.

2. Adding a ceiling to make it feel a little more enclosed and claustrophobic, currently the backdrop could simply be a barricade/low wall.

Oh Ok! I understand the way the lighting is going! one thing that I would do would be to define the shadowing more, but now that I understand it, I like it!

I was originally going to do a stream of spent brass coming out of the cannon, but the model doesn't actually have an ejection port for the rounds, so I was a bit confused as to where to have them coming from, so I decided to leave them out.

I made an ejection port on the side of my Space Wolf Terminator Assault Cannon- lots of brass!

The horde effect achieved with the Gaunts is quite convincing and the OSL is nice, also I'd try to improve the blending if I were you, it's the only that prevents it from being perfect.

I agree with CT Gamer on the second point, the traditional imagery associated to Space Hulks are dark, small and enclosed corridors. Making a floor and a ceiling enclosing the models as much as possible would really help in making that effect.

The rest is very good, but it still misses that extra little detail to get it from a "Space Wolf cinematically shooting Gaunts next to a wall" diorama to "Ambushed Space Wolf in a Space Hulk cinematically gunning down hordes of Gaunts" diorama.

All in all, great work! And you can easily make it awesome!

The ceiling definately helps, but it could use a little detailing IMHO - even if it's just a few panel lines.

I agree with adding spent casings - given that an ejection port would send them away from the operator, I'd have them bouncing off the wall !

Other than that, great job !

Well done. Any plans to extent the diorama. Make a mutli-level hulk? SW Terminators clearing out the tyranid infestation. Woo!

that would be insane!
A final comment from me is that if you want to make it look like its really dark in the hulk, and the AC is the only light, I would take a can of matte black spray paint and spray the area far from the lights source lightly, from about a foot or two away.

Have to say, the roof really adds some extra character to the diorama.
The OSL looks really good as well, overall a great piece of work!!

Lookin real good. I guess I'd like to see some gore on the walls/floor, maybe a dead nid or two on the floor, like they are coming in an endless wave. Then again, it looks great, very clean work, you might not want to mess with that.

My biggest complaint about the OSL isn't the starkness, it's the imbalance of the light cast on the figures - for being a roughly equal distance from the muzzle flash (which faces primarily towards the 'nids, no less), the terminator seems to be catching nearly all the light.

Even with that, it's shaping up amazingly well. I'd like to see those spent casings and a bit of detailing to break up the ceiling panel, but even without them, this thing is impressive.

The ceiling goes a long way toward adding a closed in feel, it was a nice addition.
