Michael Dorn (aka Worf) was at the Comic Expo I was at today and I got his autograph:

Then I went to a gamestore and played a Star Trek Tactics game with, coincidentally, a different guy named Michael. We played on the DS9 map. I had the Bortas, the Rotarran, two Korrinars, and the Klothos:

Michael had the Negh'var, Bortas, Ch'Tang, Klothos, and Gr'Oth:

This was my first game of Heroclix ever and I was very unfamiliar with the rules. For example, I didn't know that every player placed three objects on the map before the game and I didn't know about levels (red squares) either. DS9 is a strange map too because you can take control of gun turrets on the station and fire at enemy ships. We both closed to the station to take control of the gun turrets:

This was where my opponent really showed his strategy. He used the Ch'Tang's Hypersonic Speed to hit-and-run my ships and then parked the Negh'var next to it , using the levels provided by DS9's arms to shield his ships. I couldn't see his ships and he couldn't see mine, but he could hit-and-run mine!:

I stayed put, unsure what to do, but on his next turn, the Negh'var used its leadership to take away the Ch'Tang's token, then the Ch'Tang hit-and-ran again! Frustrated, my Klingons moved up to surround his ships. My Rotarran used Outwit to cancel his Hypersonic Speed and prevent the Ch'Tang's escape:

He used the break free rule to escape with the Ch'Tang and blew up one of my Korinar Birds-of-Prey:

My Klingon fleet responded by blowing up the Ch'Tang and the Negh'var! Qapla'!:

We traded fire and pounded each other until he just had the Gr'Oth and Bortas and I just had the Korinar and Rotarran:

It was just a slugfest until only my Rotarran was left:

Lessons were learned from this very, very pyhric victory:

1. Shape Change and Super Senses are powerful! We both repeatedly made these rolls for 5 or 6 and both avoided a lot of damage.

2. Stealth can be beaten by Hypersonic Speed and a level to hide behind. Leadership can keep the hit-and-run going.

3. Indomitable acts like Willpower and allows ships like the Rotarran and Negh'var to push without damaging themselves.

4. Levels (red squares) can block LOS and be used to launch hit-and-run attacks.

Anyhoo, great game, Michael. See ya next week.

Outside the DarkTower, amongst the roses.

Looks kinda fun. Did Dorn smell like a klingon?

Every Dakkanaught gets a 4+ Pinch of Salt save.
When you suffer a Falling Sky hit, roll a D6 - on a 4+ the hit is ignored as per the Pinch of Salt save. On a 1-3 panic insues - you automatically fail common sense tests for the next 2 weeks and get +7 to your negativity stat. -Praxiss

I picked up Star Trek Tactics a few weeks ago, and I'm glad someone posted a battle report! So far, It seems to be a good blend of difficulty and tactics. Klingon ships seem to have a lot of stealth and super senses (cloaking) to avoid and negate being shot. Federation focuses more on the ability to move and shoot with a lot of running shot and better defenses.

Some of the powers of the ships are pretty funny. Regenerate on the Enterprise is associated with "a miracle Mr Scott". heh

I'm really keeping my fingers crossed that other sets come out with new races like Cardassians. Romulans, Dominion, and Borg. A borg queen cube on a big clix base would be really cool.
