I was wondering if anyone here has played Command Decision?

I currently play Flames of War which is tons of fun and can be played relatively quickly which is very nice. The new FoW rules are an improvement but it seems to lack some historical accuracy. From what I've read and heard, Command Decision seems to be one of the better 10/15mm WWII table top games.

- How long does the game take?
- Is the rule set complex?
- How accurate do you feel it duplicates company/battalion level WWII combat?
- Overall impressions?

Thanks!

I used to play it a lot (and still play once a year or so)

The time depends a lot on the size of the force but I found that games often went for more than 4 hours which is what I currently feel is about as long as I want to play a game (I used to have a higher threshold but 4 hours is more than enough for me now)

I don't think it is terribly complex but I can say from trying to teach it that it is not terribly intuitive, some people have trouble picking it up. Once everyone understands how the orders work and how the chain of command is set up and how morale failures can affect orders it plays quite smoothly.

I think the combat system works fine and I think the command and control is among the best of any WWII rules I have played.

Overall I like it and I would probably play more if the people I played with were keen on it -- I am mostly playing FOW now for WWII just becuase it is quick (and fun)

Thanks for the feedback.

I came across this last night.

Has anyone tried this system?

I've tried it. It's not a bad ruleset by any stretch but it does lack the finesse of FOW.

IIRC, My biggest turnoff with CD though is minis are representational, not physical. For example, a single tank mini represents one tank squadron, etc. It's a good way to accurately reflect ground-scale but really makes you feel like you're playing a wargame, rather than a mini game.

Well it looks like there is a demo of Combat Action Command happening tommorow at my FLGS at 1 pm that I might end up going to. (Funny, I only just noticed that the company making it is based in NJ )

I will give my opinion on it if I go.

Edit: I'm not going to end up going, but I think I may look into CAC later because of my gaming groups interest in it.
