I have linked up a video battle report that is located on my blog:

http://pitchedbattle.blogspot.it/2012/03/battle-report-blood-angels-vs-imperial.html

Darksaint was my opponent. We both had great fun, great beer, and some great enchiladas (prepared by the Darksaint himself).

You comments are welcome, and thanks for viewing/reading.

Can you please explain why your dakka name is a third Reich general who was responsible for hundreds of war crimes?

To be fair, he is the Feld marshal, not the Field marshal.

Do you mean Reichsmarschall Göring?

Fieldmarshal is an Army rank where as Reichsmarschall is the highest rank in the military that one could obtain in Nazi Germany.

Great game, btw. I think it's time to unleash the Slanneshi Daemons on your little space vampires

What?? There was a Reich general who had my last name??

Sorry, just a little bit of humor there.

I appreciate all of my fellow dakkanauts coming to my defense on this one.

It is not necessary for me to justify myself to you, smitty. Nevertheless, I will answer this question for myself in an attempt to demonstrate that I am not a Bloodthirsty Nazi and am actually a generally nice guy. Hopefully you will comment on the thread topic in the future, instead of hijacking and derailing the thread in an accusatory fashion.

Here goes: I played Imperial Guard pretty much exclusively for the first 12 years of my 40k gaming experience. I was looking for a name for the commander of my Guard Army. My Father-in-law coaches high school level soccer, and he refs games at various age levels. During some summer leagues, he is responsible for the 5 or 6 pitches with games going simultaneously. The refs are all operating under his authority. This position is often referred to as Field Marshal. So, he has several t-shirts with the words 'Field Marshal' written across the back. My wife's maiden name is Goehring. So, her father is 'Field Marshall Goehring'. I named the commander of my Guard army after my Father-in-law, with a bit of an 'old world' flare (German type spelling). So, when I joined the internet world of 40k, I just assumed the name of my Imperial Guard commander. It was a natural progression, and I really didn't think too hard about it.

With regard to the name itself: No one has any choice from which families they descend. I can no more be held responsible for the fact that I was born in a family with the last name Goehring (or my wife in this instance), than I can be held responsible for the fact that I was born white or in America. It just sort of happens.

It was a great game. I am not looking forward to being last in the Initiative pecking order. Can the Red Thirst be sated through daemon blood?

So you did or you did not take your wife's name? just rhetorical.

I enjoyed the battle report. It's nice to watch a video that shows all the details rather summarizing each turn every now and then.

Thank you! I felt more details would be better than the standard 'end of turn' summary. To answer your question, I did not take my wife's last name. She took mine: Sluder. Still German, but a bit less 'famous.' I was referring to the 'Internet Name.'

The best thing about things like this is having to click the link you posted, then click on youtube, then click on fullscreen.
No seriously, interfaces these days are too smooth and easy.
Good betrep though. I've known for a long time blob IG is pathetic vs Blood Angels but that won't stop the ingrates in the tactics forum recommending them
Oh I don't know if it's a quirk of your editting...but IG orders have to be at the START of their shooting phase.
Oh and you play with FAR too little terrain. Most games don't feature enemy MEQs clumping themselves up in the open...if they did IG would be much easier to play.

You were right about the orders being out of proper sequence. What happened that was not recorded in the video is as follows:

Darksaint successfully seized the initiative. He got pretty excited about the prospect of alpha striking me. As a result, he started fire off his big guns immediately. He forgot to move, and he forgot to issue orders first.

In gentlemanly fashion, he decided that going back an entire phase to move was too much to ask. However, he did ask to issue orders after he had fired the Manticore and Leman Russ. In gentlemanly fashion, I agreed that he should indeed issue the orders at that point.

For the record, this was the first time out with my guard army. I just wanted so shoot my cannons SO BAD...

We actually have a lot of terrain on the board in comparison to the last few games, so much so that my esteemed collegue here felt better to not deepstrike into the mess and just jump onto the board.

We were terribly suprised at the resilance of the guard blob. I didn't expect the blob to really do much more than tie up 1 assault squad for more than 1-2 rounds, at most. And yet, they hung in like troopers for 3 rounds, often outnumbering the Blood Angels by only 2 to 1. For guard, that's not much of an advantage.

I'm going to tinker with the list some more and see what other fun units I can add to it for suprises.
