So... I played a game a couple days ago and was wondering how to combat this...

1850 Tau vs Space Wolves

I got second turn so I lined up my hammerheads with his Dreadnaughts, my two hammerheads were about 18 inches apart. his first turn drop pods in a Longfang squad with Grimnar... boom 3 Multi Melta's on one, and 2 Multi-Melta and a Melta pistol on the other... two hammerheads down... and Logan Grimwar more or less in the middle of of my deployment zone... within 18-24 inches of all of my crisis suits.

Other than just spacing out my hammerheads more... which would have stopped one melta pistol blast, unless I could get them more than 36" away from eachother. is there anything I can do against the grimnar longfang bomb?

I dunno... I've read that space wolves are borked and after that game I can beleive it... I mean, after his grimwar bomb took out two hammerheads, his missile longfang squad popped both my devilfish in the same turn... I think I was tabled in turn 3... after this wolves ran down my last fleeing XV8.

That being said, DP marines are a tough pill for Tau to swallow.

I like to just reserve everything when playing Tau against a DP heavy force.

Logan Bomb is powerful but in a 1850 that's a risk even someone as reckless as I would think twice about. If it works it's devastating if it does not...you wasted 400+ points.

The trick is to use the terrain to prevent the drop pod from arriving with LOS or too close. If you hug the borders there are chances he might scatter off map and suffer a mishap.

You have more than enough range to hide and shoot.

And keeping your tanks apart is going to help as well.

The guy who plays this list is a power player who likes to brag about how broken his lists are. He also plays nids with a doom list an termie blob list. He likes to manipulate his armies and wins almost everytime he plays. I have yet to play him with my DE but I hope to teach him a leason maybe lol.

Seriously, reserve EVERYTHING. Then your kroot outflank, his pods come in first, or trickle in if he sends them empty, and you can control those hammerheads and their spacing very easily.

Massed fire warrior fire with a markerlight drone in each squad, plus a hammer head or two, can really mess up a LongFang squad. If he keeps them back and sends in empty pods, those longfangs better be in the middle of his backfield, else your kroot can assault him as they come in outflanking.

DE against SW? Venom spam...you will eat him alive. Charge with your Venoms, disembark to give more targets and unload with everything you got.

Seeing his face after all those poison shots should be funny. Statistically he will fail lots of saves.

I play SW and DE are my bane.

I run 15 man wyche squads our of a web way but my 4 necrotxin missles will give him a hell of a time. I also run 6 reavers and 9 scourges with splintercarbines and 2 haywire blasters and my photon torpedo.
