So i went down to my
FLGS this weekend, it was a sunny Sunday morning with my box o' Necrons for a 1000 point tournament, also my first tournament I've ever been to. There were ironically 3 Necron Players including myself, a Tau, a Blood Angel and an Imperial Guard player, three rounds, rolling for objective and mission. Each game was supposed to be done in an hour.
Overall, I won an award for best paint job, and some store credit for that, but lets get to the good stuff shall we?
I brought for my list
Overlord w/ Scythe, Orb, Armor, Shifter,
MSS, Arrow
x2 Cryptek 1 w/ Pulse x2/ lance
x3 8 man warrior squads
x5 Lychguard
x8 Scarab Bases
My opponent game 1, Necron Wraithwing
Destroyer Lord w/
MSS
x2 Crpyteks w/ pulse and lances
x5 Wraiths kitted out for wound allocating shenanigans
x3 5 man warrior squads
x2 5 man immortal squads
Mission is 2 objectives, dawn of war, I place one on my objective on the far left on the hill, and in an interesting move he places his objective right across the board from mine, also on a hill.
We roll for initiative and I go first
My opponent was a nice, quiet fellow, we had a good chart while we played.
I place a warrior squad without a cryptek on my objective, the Overlord & lychguard behind a pillar in the middle of the map, and another warrior squad w/ crpytek on a hill behind that offering an excellent field of fire.
I place my scarabs near the lychguard, and the other warriors nearby as well
He places two squads, (one tesla immortal w/ crpytek, one 5 man warrior squad) on his objective on the hill
he places his wraiths in the middle of the map, along with 5 warriors
The other two units go wide right, in an odd move.
He attempts to steal initiative, and rolls a 2 (thank god)
Turn 1 (Me)
Movement
Scarabs advance on his units on the hill.
Lychguard hold, waiting to see where the wraiths go
My warriors position themselves to fire at the wraiths if they are not already in position.
Scarabs run, reaching the base of his hill on a six!
Shooting
I roll well for my nightfighting, causing it to not hinder me
My warriors and crpyteks fire some potshots into his wraiths, causing a grand total of two wounds
Assault
My scarabs pass their test, and get into assault with his immortals, causing two casualties on his side, and two wounds in return to me.
One immortal rises to fight anew.
Turn 1 (Necrons not me)
Movement, his un-engaged units on the right move up, the wraiths looking to move to the right of the large pillar dominating the center of the map, his warrior advance behind the wraiths, who I am hoping are out of assault range.
Shooting
A few shots hit my warriors on the ridge near my objective, causing two deaths from the gauss immortals and their crpytek, one warrior gets back up, refusing to die.
Deciding he would be out of assault range, he runs his wraiths 3 inches. (whew!)
Assault
My scarabs chew up his immortals, dropping the cryptek, and two more, they fail leadership and run off the board, my scarabs consolidate towards his warrior squad.
Turn 2
Analysis: Well, I can't really ask for better, my scarabs are doing a number, and I can assault and shoot his wraiths again!
Necrons 2 (Me)
My warriors position themselves for rapid fire goodness, while my lychguard prepare for the charge.
Shooting
Two squads of warriors and crypteks fire into the wraiths, and I start to panic, only ONE WOUND, out of 32 shots, plus 2 crypteks!
Well, nothing for it now...CHARGE
Assault
My lychguard and Overlord sweep down the hill into the wraiths....The lord both use
MSS, both failing.
Whip coils make me go second.
My troops get absolutely butchered, I have two troops left to hit back with. I manage to inflict a single wound before being overrun.....
Scarabs charge his warriors, killing two, they kill a base in return, and hold, one warrior gets back up.
Turn two, necrons
I pop solar pulse to reduce his shooting, he pops his to negate it
Movement
His wraiths fly over the pillar, behind a warrior squad.
His warriors move up, along with his un-engaged troops on the right.
Shooting
Gauss immortals fire, killing another two warriors. They pass leadership, and both return to the battle, refusing to give the enemy the hill.
His warriors on the right run.
His warriors on the left fire at my warriors holding my objective, to no effect.
Wraith pistols fail to wound my warrior unit
Assault
Wraiths jump into assault with the warriors, who pile in. When the dust settles, 4 warriors die, the squad passes leadership, and 3 warriors return to engage the flying menaces.
My scarabs and his warriors both whiff each other in assault
Turn two analysis.
Oh crap, my only unit that I was COUNTING to tie up the wraiths went down without a fight to to horrendous die rolling. This is going to be hard to salvage.
Turn three.
Necrons(me)
Movement
None of my units move
Shooting
My warriors on my objective fire on his advancing warriors near the melee with the wraiths and the warriors, managing to kill 3, they pass leadership despite the torrent of long range gauss fire, and one returns to the battle.
My other warrior squad opens fire on his advancing warriors on the right, shredding another two warriors. 2 stand to fight anew.
Assault.
My warriors continue to hold the line against the wraiths and destroyer lord, losing another 4 models, and causing a wound in return. They pass leadership on a 7, and 3 warriors rise to attack their would-be slayers.
My scarabs munch on his warriors, wiping out the squad, they shuffle an inch in consolidation, his objective is no longer held, mine his (Tactical victories are nice too...right?

)
Turn three necrons
Movement
His warriors move into rapid fire range of my warriors, his gauss immortals advance as well.
His warriors shuffle behind the melee, getting closer to my objective.
Shooting
His warriors and gauss immortals rapid fire into my squad overlooking the battle, screening his forces from my objective. Dropping 4 of them, they barely pass morale, and 3 stand back up.
His warriors shoot my warriors on my objective, killing one, who will not stand again to repulse his surging army.
Assault.
His wraiths almost manage to kill my warriors, killing another 3 via rends and power weapons, leaving two warriors alive, they in kind finally kill a wraith.
He grins, before realizing I roll a 3 on leadership, they stay however only one warrior returns to the fight, stubbornly holding onto life.
Turn 3 analysis
Well, that was unexpected, I thought my warriors would fold to the wraiths sooner, they are tar pitting well, I might be able to win if I can keep him tied up or away from my objective...
Turn 4 Necrons (me)
Movement
Scarabs move off the hill and his objective, leaving it behind, their target is the 3-man warrior squad trying to sneak its way into my objective.
My warriors on the hill, tired of holding the line, move down the hill, 2 inches away from his warrior squad.
Shooting
My warriors on my objective fire at his warriors 2 inches from my other warrior squad, dropping them to two members. They pass leadership, however neither returns to fight.
Scarabs sadly get a 3 to run, and close some of the gap between the melee, them, and the warriors, but not enough for assault
Assault
My warriors, knowing they can't take another round of shooting from the two squads encroaching on them, do the only sensible thing, they charge his two remaining warriors, killing one, I lose one, however he returns to fight, as does his warrior.
My other warrior squad finally caves after several brutal rounds of combat, dying to the last man, his wraiths consolidate 4 inches towards my objective.
Turn 4 Necrons
Movement:
His immortals take the bait, and move to prepare to assault my warriors in combat with his warriors
His wraiths jump behind my warriors guarding my objective
His two warriors move as far as they can towards my objective, they are about 8 inches, with difficult terrain for the hill from victory.
Shooting
Pistols and warriors fire into my warrior squad, dropping one.
Assault.
His 5-man immortal squad charges into my warriors, wiffing pretty badly, I kill one and lose two in return, however I do not Break
The wraiths assault and wipe my warrior squad after I fail mindshackle scarab rolls, and I only cause one unsaved wound, killing another wraith.
They consolidate to try and place themselves between his warriors and my scarabs, but can't move far enough to do it
Turn 4 Analysis
Well, crap, I have 3 warriors, a crpytek, and 6 bases of scarabs left to work with, time for plan B with the sneakyness
Turn 5 (me)
As we prepared to start, the
TO called that we should finish up the turn, and that it would be the end of the game to expedite things some.
My scarabs move up towards his warriors
Shooting
My scarabs run, leaving 2-3 inches between them and his 3 warriors near my objective
Assault
My warriors continue to battle, finishing off his warriors, and losing another member, however he returns upon passing leadership
My scarabs charge his three warriors near my objective to determine the outcome of the game, slaughtering them to the last, by drowning them in attacks, carefully placed them to prevent the scarabs from being attacked in multiassault by the wraiths very close by.
Turn 5 necrons
His wraiths charge my scarabs in spite, killing all but two of them.
He kills my warriors except for the crpytek, who also chooses at the perfect time to not run, rolling snake eyes for leadership.
And with that, the game ends via time
(We rolled just to see if it would have continued, and it would not have regardless)
DRAW GAME 0-0
Post Game:
Well, I got some awesome luck with the warriors tying up the wraiths so long, and the scarabs munching on everything they could get their hands on, and some horrible luck with the lychguard for a change, and did the best I could regardless of almost being tabled. For my first game at a tournament ever, I can be happy enough with this
If we had had another turn, I was done for, no questions asked, but, rules is rules ya know?
GAME TWO VERSUS TAU AND GAME THREE VS. BLOOD ANGELS STILL
TO COME!
