Subject: Painting Crisis Battlesuit Shield Generators

So I wanted to paint the shield generator on my battlesuit, but I'm lost for ideas.
I might try sort of a power field engaging kind of effect, but I don't know how (tips?)
The other option might be to paint it more standard, but I don't want it to be just straight armour colours...yet at the same time, I want to keep a limited palette to give my army a united look...so really, I am lost.
Any help?

Personally, I'd say stick with your Sept colors on the shield gen and either paint or use a decal of your Sept symbol in the center of it.
I did see some models done up with some sort of clear epoxy add on to the shield to make it look like the shield was engaged, but it just looked horrible.
Truth is, if you want to make it look like it's engaging, I'd color it with the suit's paint scheme, then OSL it like the shield is being formed just over the center of the generator.

I was kinda thinking sept colours in the centre and armour on the rim or vice versa, but I was worried it would look too similar to the doors on my hammerhead.
With blazing orange as the sept colour and necron abyss with shadow grey lightly dry brushed (so basically a deeper blue version of shadow grey) over as the armour colour, which should be the rim of the shield?
I like your idea for OSL btw

A small flying base like this;
Give it a frosted look with some fine sand-paper.
Put a LED (any colour) in the hole and voila!
One shield generator coming up.
Will be happy to post some picture (but won't be able to until the end of next week).

That actually sounds like a really good idea, unfortunately I have already finished the modelling.
On problem I see with your plan-where will you put the batter for the LED? And what will you have to do to change it when it dies? Anyways, I recommend icy blue kind of colour for that.

With a bit of work you can fit a button-cell under a 40mm base, with a micro switch on the base.
You can either drill holes for the wires (takes a bit of planning) or glue the wire directly unto the model and paint them.
Instead of just pictures maybe I'll do a tutorial.
EDIT:
Actually just use this as inspiration.

That's awesome a bit much for a TT model, but if you don't mind making a full tutorial, maybe I'll use it for competitions?

Wow, that's a brilliant force-field effect. My only qualm is that it doesn't look clear enough for my vision of force fields - I'd wash/stain the flying base blue, colouring but not obscuring the view through it. Possibly a little 'Ardcoat painted on thick to ripple the view.
