I have started building a Sisters army (I am mostly buying used models from ebay) and for now I intend to stick with the Witch Hunters codex, for many obvious reasons. Would anyone who has been or currently is a Sisters of Battle player have any pros/cons type input concerning my decision?
On a related note, how do you feel about building army lists with older editions for the sake of your own preferences, like in this case? Would you, for instance, play Daemonhunters instead of Grey Knights, or use the old Necron codex for the We'll Be Back rule, the gauss superiority and the Nightbringer? If your opponent did the same, would that put you off?

As long as your opponent doesn't care you should be OK using witch hunters. Don't even try it at a tournament though.

This.
In this sort of situation, ALWAYS make sure you check wth your opponent first and make sure they are Ok with it. If they are...go for it.

Thanks, that's how I feel about it myself. The only thing that could potentially be a problem would be people trying to "sneak in" only their favourite special rules/units from the codex and mix and match like that, but then again who would be that much of a dick? Point retracted, this can totally happen.
Anyone here prefer the White Dwarf SOB codex over the Witch Hunters'?

Oh I've done plenty. In my opinion the old codex is superior in every way. That's actually why I'm asking, because I am beginning to wonder if anyone will use the WD one. With their weak fanbase, the sisters probably won't get another update before 2013.

I loved both of the Hunter books. The options and variety of forces you could create from those lists was great. I'd have no problem with someone using the older list if they really wanted to. Officially would be another story at officially sponsored GW events I would expect that the WD codex would be the only acceptable option.
The only thing I like better in the WD codex for the SoBs is that the acts of faith are a lot less confusing for opponents than in the Witchhunters' codex. There are fewer and they are clearer in their effects as well. Those rules always caused confusion around the table when someone brought their sisters to the table from the witchhunters book. They were by no means hard rules, but just consistently confusing.
That weak fanbase is self enforcing too...people don't play sisters because they don't have a real codex and because they are just stupid expensive to play with all of the troop figures being metal. So they don't get a real codex or affordable plastic minis because people don't really play them because....and so on...either they need to just drop them or give them a real full court press to see if they can become popular. I fail to see the point of continually releasing them in halfway form and forever leaving them in limbo.

If you let me know before the game then I'd be okay with it. I've actually been pretty supportive of the idea of people using old codices, especially if they support a specific army that is now invalid. I've played against Lost and the Damned many times, for example.
