I'd like to get into airbrushing, at least for base coats. I swear if I have to apply ultramarine blue with a brush one more time...
I already own a decent pancake air compressor that has a great regulator and set of gauges. Could that be used with an airbrush, saving me money on a compressor for the brush? What pressures do these things typically run at and what kind of tolerance for pressure am I looking at?
I really appreciate any help. If this thing will work it'll save me a lot of cash on an airbrush kit.

Most airbrushes run from 20-30 PSI and you may wish to, in some cases, drop it down to 10 psi for some work.
I got a tanked compressor for using air tools, which is more for running at 100PSI (like for a framing gun, stuff like that), and I sort of regret it. While it's a good compressor the regulator simply is not fine enough to accurately get the low PSI I need and I wound up adding a second one. I would have been wider to have just gotten a compressor made for airbrushes.

If your regulator is good enough, sure. I've got a pancake compressor I use for long airbrushing sessions. If you do go that route, however, I recommend also putting a filter inline with the hose, that way you cut down on possible moisture and/or oil intrusion.

Is there a good thread on airbrushing equipment here on Dakka or elsewhere?
