Subject: Eldar - Psychic Powers targeting an IC aid a squad he then joins?

Sooo, here's an other Farseer/Warlock question. Eldar psychic powers happen at the beginning of the turn. Say a Farseer is more than 2" From a Squad of Dire Avengers, and an independent character at the beginning of the turn. He casts "Fortune" or "Guide" (or both) on either himself or the Dire Avenger squad, then moves to join the unit during the movement Phase.
In either case, would both units benefit from the power, or just the original unit he targeted? I know they count as one unit after he joins a squad, and he regularly targets a squad he's in and benefits, but does it matter if he casts the power before Joining the unit?
How about if he Fortunes a unit then leaves? Then only the original "target" unit benefits?

Only the specific squad you cast it on- even if a Farseer is in an Avenger squad and casts Guide/Fortune on it, he won't be affected. This question is irrelevant for Warlocks as they cannot leave a unit they are assigned to.

If a Farseer is part of the Dire Avengers at the beggining of the turn and he casts Fortune on the squad he WILL be affected, as he is part of that unit.
The general consensus is that if you cast Fortune on a unit and then leave said unit, you are no longer under Fortune. However, if you cast Fortune or Guide on the Dire Avengers and then join them I'd be more inclined to say that yes, he would get the benefits of it as he is now part of the unit.

Essentially, the Farseer casts the power on the unit.
If he joins the unit, he the power will affect him.
If he leaves the unit it won't.
Similarly, if he casts the power on himself, he loses it if he joins the unit (although fortune would probably work in close combat)

Keeping in mind that these powers were written before the new character joining rules so there really isnt a right answer.
It seems that just simply based on RAW one could go as far as casting spells on the seer then moving him into coherency with another unit and appling spell effects to the whole group, even other characters that also join. However this seems to be a seriously terrible thing to try and pull on an opponent. Taken to the extreme a seer could actually cast fortune on units 14 inches away provided the character and unit move directly toward one another. Add a waveserpent to the mix and the range increases to a max of 22 inches (12+2+2+6). Even better use a turboboosted jetbike to make the range a grand total of 32 inches (though their may be a clause stating a unit boosting 'can do nothing else that turn' or something).

The IC rules are essentially the same in this respect as 4th ed, so this issue has been around a while.
RAW wise if the Seer casts Fortune on himself, and then joins a unit, noone in the unit benefits as they were not the target of the power. Usually places allow the seer to still benefit from it.
Similarly if a seer leaves the Fortuned unit, he doesnt get to keep fortune - HE wasnt the target, the unit was, and he is no longer the unit

But if he targets a unit he is not joined that is within 6 inches at the BEGINNING of the turn, then joins them, he then has the power? That is probably the only instance this works.
