I was laying in bed with the missus and she had her head on my chest, she remarked that my heart was beating really slowly, so I asked her to count it for a minute, and it was 44BPM.

I do plenty of exercise and told her that I once read somewhere that a slow heart rate indicates good fitness, but she is paranoid and said that after a google she said it has a medical term (bradycardia?) and it can cause fainting or something.

So, just out of curiosity, what is your resting heart rate?

Sit for a minute and count it, and we can compare and see if any of us require medical attention!

On a boat, Trying not to die.

Average is 60-90 resting.

However, some people have slow heart rates. When I'm active, (See: Typing into Dakka), mine gets around 70. When I'm lying down doing nothing, it gets to about 50.

So no, she's fine, don't worry.

Mines 54, but I usually sit quite low on the average. The average is about 65-70 so yours is pretty low matty.

That's not necessarily abnormal, depending on how much exercise you get, as athletes tend to have fairly low resting heart rates. I run 35-40 miles a week, and my resting heart rate is in the low 40's as well.

Basically, if you don't exhibit any negative symptoms, I wouldn't worry.

Average for an adult you are looking at 60-80, when you start to get 90 at rest I would be raising eyebrows. However those who exercise regularly are likely to have a lower resting heart rate, athletes and some soldiers. If your lying in bed doing nothing then your heart rate will dip quite a bit, quite normal. I am incredibly unfit, with a slight jog pushing my heart rate to over 120, yet reading in bed my heart rate has gone into low 50's.

If you don't faint or feel ill with that then nothing to be concerned about. Maybe keep an eye to see if it is normal for you and when exercising monitor. Always useful information to have in case you get hurt and need to tell the paramedics/nurses/doctors.

Yeah I figured if you feel fine its feth all to worry about, seems like its common to be below 60.

My Dad once told me that Steve Redgrave had a heart rate in its thirties, but that may just be an urban legend.

I believe I read somewhere a long time ago that lowest recorded on a healthy person was 29 at rest. Can't remember where I saw it though, it was some athlete, when exercising his heart rate merely went up into the 30's/40's.

Makes sense, my old man is hugely into cycling and he told me the guys who do the tour make footballers and tennis players look like pensioners. He said that all in they were the fittest people out there.

I thought you are or were a royal marine which=lots of running/cadio=Sinus Bradycardia

The techinical term for your low heart rate is sinus bradycardia. It's a benign condition found in most athletes and soldiers.

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

As long as you don't suffer from dizziness or anything else caused by lack of oxygen, having a low heart rate is awesome. It means you got a fething python in your chest.

Very cardiovascularly fit individuals have lower heart rates as their hearts are strong enough to push blood through the veins with less beats.
