So playing Crons. Have Space marines. I fielded Capt. Sicarius and Shriek.

Now my assault squad with Shriek is getting flamed up with that template St 8 Ap1 LD thing that the Cryptecs have... Not being death marked or anything fancy like that by the Crons.

I used Capt Sicarius Rites of Battle for their LD which makes all my units use his LD for moral and pinning tests... After getting home and re-reading the rules, I think I may have cheated. Did I do that wrong aka did I cheat?

Yes, you did. Nowhere in the Abyssal Staff rules does it say that the attack is a Morale or Pinning test, so Rites of Battle does not affect it.

EDIT: Although, just to be clear, it seems unintentional. You could ask for a rematch or just chalk it up to learning something new, just try not to do it again.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

The difference between cheating and a mistake is intent. Mistakes happen quite a lot in 40k games, especially if you are really into the game or are coming to the end of a gruelling 2 day tournament.

Don't sweat it, mistakes happen. Just something to remember for next time.

I don't know how many times my buddy and I "oops" on the rules. It seems like almost every game is a learning experience at times. As it is, the difference between cheating and "I f'ed up" is intent.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Absolutely, everyone makes mistakes in the rules. Good on you for owning up to the error and apologising, though - that's a mark of a great sportsman.

Well, part of it is because one of my buddy used to play 4th ed. So some of those rules get carried over by mistake, such as models partially under a blast marker being hit on a 4+.

It happens. Learn from it and don't do it again and it was an honest mistake. Keep doing it and your cheating.

Everyone gets rules wrong occasionally, you didn't do it on purpose and even apologized, so it was a mistake not cheating.
