It's all done with synthesizers, but it sounds like it's supposed to be timpani.

Ah yeah, some clarification would be in order. The big deep sounding drum is supposed to be timpani, and like Castiel said, the thin snappy sounding one is supposed to be a snare drum. It's not a particularly good snare sound though, I actually thought it was supposed to be a shaker when I first started the song.
