A lot of praise for the kit’s designer. Just the right amount of greeblies and sections and that for even a simple paint job to look pretty spiffy.

Need to start planning my week ahead. Usual Monday appointment between 6 and 7, so probably stuff over lunch break. Thursday night I’m off to my mate’s gig in Canterbury. I think I’m travelling with them, so again that’s gonna be a lunchtime session.

And I think in terms of what I want to paint? I’ll get the Assault Squad done. They’re occupying a shelf of otherwise painted models, and it’s starting to annoy me. And I did buy a fresh bottle of Grim Black.

Day 113

Starting to get the washes down. Turret done, underside of chassis done, sponsons done.

Once dried I’ll do the topside, then just the red to go.

Speaking of which!

Looking good. That's a nice simple paint scheme for army building. I'm terrible at painting armies because I like to pick out all the little details and it can take me a long time to paint one mini.

Just the top coat of red to go, and I’ll this one done for now.

FIN.

Might do something with the Heavy Bolter though, as it’s barely noticable. Not sure what though.

Day 114

Assault Squad undercoated. Five of them needed a second scoosh, so that’s it for tonight.

Tomorrow of course is drybrush (lunchtime), then Grim Black.

Looks like you're painting those with the jump pack son, Doc? Would it've been as easy to leave them off for now, or are we on a weird-model-cut situation?

I simply don’t plan that far ahead.

They shouldn’t be too tricky, but of course time will tell!

The kit has them completely separate though, so it would’ve been possible to paint them as sub-assemblies then glue.

The jump pack sits some way away from the body so painting the painting shouldn’t be a major issue. But applying transfers will be more difficult.

Might as well jump.

All 20 now have their drybrush. Once dried, the Grim Black.

Day 116

Rest of the Assault Squad done in Grim Black, with a few pick-up splodges where coverage was poor.

That’s probably the extant of today’s activity, as got a gig tonight and I’m cadging a lift from one of the band members.

Day off tomorrow though, so should get their metallics done. Fully expect to have them done by the end of the week.

Day 117

Last minute Nephloof Sitting today, so only a wee bit of hobby. Specifically testing the placement of metallics on the Assault Squad. And I’m pretty happy with it.

Day 188

DADDY BEAR!

Doing sub-assemblies. Main body is sub-assembly one, backpack is two, shoulder pads and shield are three.

Found a “Pablo Hidalgo” how-to on the tubes of you which I fancy giving a bash.

But that’s it for today, as I’m afraid I can’t be arsed to paint. Instead gonna kick back with some beers, Supernatural on the telly, and a read of my recently arrived Codex Angels of Death (2nd Ed).

There’s a curiously low amount of armour to be done, as the rear of the model is all flown cloaks. Which to my mind suggests I’ll need to spend time getting those right.

Might even try some glazes and that!

I did glaze my two banners for my IG and though it took freakin' forever to paint (like 3 hours each or somehting along those lines) I was extremly pleased with how it came out.

Good gravy these lads are t.e.d.i.o.u.s.

But. Hobby has been achieved, as that’s three more with their metallics done.

[b]Day 120]

I nearly let the streak break. Nearly. These guys really are a drag.

But I plugged on. One more done in metallics, and decided to use the remaining paint on my palette to do the Power Swords and Lightning Claws.

Day 121

Good gravy. Nearly a third of the way through the year. And this Assault Squad will be finished, possibly by the end of this week. The metals are such a drag, but there’s no way round them. They bring the necessary contrast to the black.

It’s an odd feeling, given my commitment is to do even a wee bit each day. But given I’ve been thrashing it out at a rate of knots, the slow down here began to annoy me.

But, even if it’s one a day getting its metallics? It’s still progress, and a step toward being done.

Given enough days, even at the rate of one mini per day, you will be getting closer to the finish line. This is how water carves a river through stone
