The rules are called "Movie" because they allow the marines to act as they would in a Hollywood action film. Terminator 1 style carnage and more!

However unlikely it is that these rules will ever be made official i would still like to say that tey are absolutely fantastic. They capture the feeling of the space marines perfectly, something that is slightly lost in some of the larger 40K battles.

for anyone who hasn't seen the rules here are some of the best points

-squads of one

-veteran sergents are 200 points(with a stats line to match)

-bolters are assault 4 rending!

-the marines have 2 wounds and a 3+ re rollable armour save and 3+ invulnerable save.

-marines are toughness 6

-super krak rockets are heavy 2 str 10 ap 1

pretty scary for someone who laughs at a 1500pts marine army with 6 models in it.

The sad thing about this is that you just know Andy Chambers wants nothing more than to make this a reality, only without the point cost increases.

Also, how does a six man army represent Marine fluff?  Every single bit of fluff I've ever read about Space Marines involves squads fighting together.  Trust your battle brothers!

I don't think it usually comes out at 6 for 1500pts. It does allow you to have a squad or two of marines fighting against an entire enemy army, which is pretty cool.

One of the fluffiest players in our area (who's also a phenomenal painter and modeler) used this article as an excuse to convert up a super-detailed and personalized squad of marines to use with these rules. Putting the kind of effort in that you wouldn't normally put into one unit. I think that?s the idea behind the article.

Of course, one of the articles I most wanted to see, and I missed it entirely... and GW hasn't obliged by putting them up anywhere.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

If crummy old space marines are this good in the movies then imagine how good movie Iron Warriors or movie Eldar would be!

Obliterators that can morf twin linked battlecannon arms! A seer council with stackable fortunes and mind wars that effect entire squads! Wraithguard that fire D-Cannon shots and Wraithlords with T 10 and 20 wounds!

These rules are at least a year old (if not more).

They sound fun on paper, but are actually horribly designed. The are not properly priced for 1,500 points, and if you use the stunt-double rules, they will obliterate pretty much any army you can think of.

Its a cool idea that GW just took waaaaaaaayyyyyyy too far over the top, and clearly didn't playtest at all.

The rules actually state at the beginning that they would be ridiculous if actually used in a game. The rules were written to show the marines as they are depicted in the books, as immense fighting machines capable of taking apart entire armies with just a few tactical squads.

In the rules the highest rank described was a veteran seargent, just think how hard a chaplain would be! and also how many points...

They don't say that. And there is no reason that if you are including points values, you can't make the rules balanced for gameplay.

The fact is, making 10 Space Marines strong enough to take on a 1,500pt enemy army is plenty cinematic, even if the game is close.

But the rules they wrote are not balanced. It would take an enemy force of much more than 1,500 pts (or armed specifically to tackle movie marines) to give them a run for their money.

Again, thanks to shoddy rules-writing and (I'm guessing) no playtesting the points values they assigned to the movie marines are wildly incorrect.

In particular the stunt double rules are an absolute joke.

The sad thing is, it is a great idea, and the rules are pretty close to being fun and balanced.

Can anyone oblige me by sending me a copy of these rules? Somehow, I doubt the GW IP department would get in a tizzy, since THEY aren't selling the rules anywhere...

Movie guardsmen could actually work out quite nicely. If you were to put an extra 20% on the price of every model, but for each platoon in your army (including conscripts, HQ and heavy support) one random infantryman with no upgrades is upgraded to a Hero for free, with T4, S4, two wounds, a S5 AP5 lasgun, meltabombs, WS7, BS5, and is an unattached independant character (so he hides in the squad and can't be killed with it). He's also fearless. And (hey, why not) rending CC attacks. So, as the hordes of troopers die around him, one unnoticed trooper rises to the occassion... Very war movie.

Alternatively just do an Arnie character with BS5 and always counts as stationary when shooting(Commando). And can cary two railguns (Eraser). I mean lascannons. Or maybe railcannons. Two S10 AP1 shots a turn? Muahahahahahahahahahaa! And is immune to Instant Death, has three wounds and Feel No Pain (Terminator). And is S6 (Pumping Iron). And a pregnant Schola teacher. And I'll stop now before my head explodes.

All's fair in Love and War.

Except Alaitoc, Blood Angels, 6-Dreadnaught Marine armies, Deathwing, Daemons, Necrons, Siam-Hann, Dark Reapers, 3+ cover saves, shooty Ork armies, jet packs, 3+ saves on Eldar, Drop Pods, Squiggoths, Daemonic Runes, etc.
Oh, and people using flamers against my Kroot. I hate that.

The Hammer

When I first read the IG codex, I wanted to do a Rambo conversion as the leader of an Autocannon Heavy Weapons squad - HI on the gunner, shooting from the hip. Then I noticed it was in the armoury...

A Codex: Arnie's Squad in Predator would be pretty cool. As I recall, they wipe out about a platoon's worth of narco-mercs before meeting the title character. Say:

Jesse Ventura
Equipment: Twin-Linked Assault Cannon, Tilley Hat (Trademark Item), Medallion Crimson, big ol' knife (as power weapon) carapace armour, chameleoline, counts as Slave Levy
WS BS S T W I A LD SV
5 2 4 4 2 5 3 10 4+

just since he's the most memorable character in that movie. (one movie, one franchise, two governors)

When soldiers think, it's called routing.

No to be a Chaos obsessed player but...

Picture 5 aspiring champions of Khorne
All have axes of khorne
All have feel no pain
All have Juggenaughts of khone
All have Daemonic Aura
All have an additional close combat weapon

Its something like 105 points a model. 2 wounds, +3/+5 saves 5 attacks, ignores armor saves oh and charges 12 with a possibility of moving 6-12 first .

These of course would be elites or just a retinue for a lord with more wounds .
