Hey guys, I did a post just like this. I showed you guys some of my mixes and such and asked for criticism . I got some good feedback. I'm going to ask for some constructive criticism, but first a little description of who I am.
My name is Henry White, I am known by my fans and listeners as DJ Feel The Beat (FTB). Not a good name, will do for now. I am from Boston, Massachusetts. I am 14 years old. I started DJing around 7 months ago. I just thought, hey I love electronic music! Why not mess around with DJ programs? So I downloaded VirtualDJ. I still use it too, I love that damn program. I made some horrid stuff, not knowing at all what I was doing. Around 4 months ago, I chipped in some money with the help of my loving parents to buy myself a DJ Controller, known as the DDJ ERGO V made by Pioneer. I still use it for now and I will be getting a new program and new controller soon. The Kontrol S4 by Native Instruments. My first ever gig was my middle school dance about a month ago. I DJ'ed in front of about 400 people. One of the best feeling ever. Before I did that I made a soundcloud, and posted my music on there. Had a small amount of followers. It was a nice group of electronic dance music lovers like me. Well after the dance, I was invited to join a small group of DJs, called the Emcees. Now I have real gigs I'm getting paid hundreds for, and for a teenager, thats a lot of money for me ahaha. I now am confident enough to play infront of my friends and family members, now I want to share some of my music to you guys. I play and listen to a lot of Dubstep, Electro, House, Jungle, Drum & Bass, Tech, Moombahton, Hardstyle, Progressive, and Trance. I hope you and nice community on DakkaDakka will enjoy some of my mixes.
Here is some of what people say, is my best work

Black Templars are the best Space Marine Chapter out of all the Space Marines. They are the most fanatical marines out there. They are on an endless, eternal crusade for the god emperor. AND they get in the face of the enemy. Thats the way to get things done.

For me , mate, you called it, it is a true mash up beat mix. But for me,waaaay too much of a mash up.
IMHO a mash up has got to have an underlying/overlaying theme.
This mix has neither.
It swings from a wonderful psuedo trance vocal to busta then hardcore to a housse vibe? ( WTF?)
After that I gave up boss. Sorry.
You're best piece was 6.30 on for a light house buzz.
Gotta pick a mash up style and stick with it. As it stands its fething chaos :(

If you haven't got a pair of monitors, you should think about investing in a good set. Good monitors are a producers best friend, highly recommend KRKs. Also if you ever feel the need to change programs try Ableton, it has so much more utility for live stuff. And remember, you can never have too many VSTs.
Your work is pretty cool, could do with a bit of refinement (sometimes less is more), but for someone in their first year of producing theres some really good stuff. Keep making them choons and listen to as much new stuff as you can (if you like jungle and dubstep check out breakcore).

Uhm Dael, I'm assuming you are recommending him to go totally plugin via mixing?

With VSTs? I tend to use them for making crazy little samples, which can be used wherever you please. Good for glitched out stuff, but I use them sparingly, like guitar pedals.

An addition to this is a great pair of headphones. Personally I recommend the Sony MDR 7506, incredible bass reproduction, clear mids, couldn't tell you about the highs, as time in the military, too many rock concerts, and too many raves kinda did my hearing in.

My only problem Dael/treadhead is that he still has a mix./mash of ???
Any original angle kickn?
Same as I posted earlier, gotta pick a "vibe" and roll with it.
Plugs, samples and front cack kicks wont bring an average mix up.
It'll just be ....average :(
Look ST, just being honest.

My thought is learn the mechanics first, then find your own style.

I think it's probably just overenthusiasm, experience should teach him that ideas need their own space to fully realise their potential.

Thanks for the input. That mix was meant for that style of people that listen mashups like that. Many people requested of me to do a mashup with rap playing and a nice bass synth in the backround so thats what I did. I like to make my mixes a little unpredictable too. different genres and such. adds "flavor" to the mix. if people like rap, then there is a part in that mix with rap and dubstep, if listeners wanted electro house its in there too. I dont exactly like that "underlying/overlaying theme." I like making mashups where they have crazy synths and have a mininal house feel in the backround, like my mashup Unison Rockits. That kinda feel if you know what I mean Automatically Appended Next Post: Ratius wrote:My only problem Dael/treadhead is that he still has a mix./mash of ???

Programs I use don't allow me to do much with samples or effects, until I get my Kontrol S4 with Traktor Pro 2. I cant do much. but thank you for the input!

These were done by a very good friend of mine, just laying them out for inspiration. They were done mostly with Acid I believe.
First:
Next:
And lastly the best one In my opinion:
Posting these for inspiration. Also check out The Detroit Techno Militia, DJ Psycho, TLinder, DJ Seoul, DJ Trench, and every one of the videos in this article: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/05/25/movement-detroit-2012-lineup-electronic-music-festival-local-acts_n_1544237.html?ref=fb&src=sp&comm_ref=false#sb=3286705,b=facebook
Last bit of advice, and why I have linked all this stuff, is because you need to know your roots. Start on the firm foundation that these (and hundreds more like them) have laid, and you can go anywhere.

Thank you sir, I will pass that along to my friend. Something he suggested (I told him about you and what you were doing). He suggests taking classes on music theory, as well as learning the keyboard/piano. That should help with composing new tracks and whatnot

As a matter of fact, I am taking musical theory next year in high school. And that's a good idea, I've always wanted to learn how play the piano actually. Thanks for the idea and tell your friend to keep doing what he's doing Ahaha.
