**Malleus**

A regular opponent of mine takes a skaven warlord with a warp-augmented rifle of some kind. It's s5 and he puts it in a flaming unit, which allows his guy to shoot at hydras and trolls and aboms and so forth to allow it to subsequently be shot with his cannons or poisoned slingshots or whatever and not take regen.

As I read it, flaming attacks rule cannot apply to "magic weapons." The gun gives the skaven guy "counts as magical attacks" or something like that, so I would read it to say it's a "magical weapon" the same way chaos knights' ensorcelled weapons are, and can't benefit from flaming attacks under any circumstances. However, this guy argues it's like grail knights (no magical weapons, just magical attacks, and therefore flaming can apply). What does the forum think?

If the gun specifically gives flaming attacks then they're both magical and flaming, but the banner benefit is not transferred to a magic weapon.
The other example of this i can think of is the burning blade of Chotec (LM).

Pretty sure its just a warpmusket from the skaven scrap-pile, meaning its not a magic weapon, just skaven-specific mundane equipment (in the same way as full plate and chaos armour), the special rules for the warpmusket means that it has magical attacks as it is a warpstone weapon

Oh a warp weapon yea those are counts as magical attacks indeed. Besides most warpstone is already on fire in some form or other

Having magical attacks does not make it a Magic Weapon, so perfectly fine to have this combo. Good use for the warp weapon

I guess if you're fielding a Two Towers list, a flaming banner BSB in some Jezzails might not be completely horrible.

Well, I mean, except for, ya know, Jezzails...

Screaming Bell and Plague Furnace, giving you several Unbreakable blocks and thus not needing the BSB's reroll all that much. Generally speaking (for my skaven at least) I tend to give my BSB defensive magic items over a magical standard, since I need him to stick around as long as possible.
