Well, I am just curious about Tau and the upcoming 6th ED that is coming out... sooner or later... I don't know of many Tau players in my area. I am use to playing Black Templars. I know these two armies are completely different play style. I guess I just want to know ( I may get a good deal on a Tau Army 2000 pts+) and just wondered if i should wait til after 6th comes out to see if they are going to be a viable army to play. Any thoughts would be great!!

Thank you

The codex is already older than dirt so it will always have that against it for a bit.

Things that could really hurt / help the army.

Basic coversaves get moved back to 5+ Good because it lowers the number of markerlights needed to negate it. Bad because Kroot will loose that wonderful 3+ in the woods and distruption pods on tanks will take a hit.

If area terrain comes back for things like forests. JSJ would once again become very powerful as you can actually hide your units.

They change the way objectives work. If its still troops only or you can't be in vehicles the Tau are boned hard. Neither Kroot or FW are all that good at holding objectives.

Any change to rapid fire rules can only help the Tau, so at least we have that going for us.

I think that a Tau codex should be coming out within the next year or two, so you won't have to wait too long, but that's just my personal opinion.

Waiting til 6th is probably the only way to see as they're due for a new codex and there are quite a few rumors supporting that one is up and coming which sounds like (based on 6th ed. rumors) right around the time the 6th Ed BRB comes into existence.

One fellow I play at RTTs stated that the play testing for the new 'dex proved it too nasty and broken, so they're scaling it back from the initial ideas.
Issues:
RGs reaching across the table in a line, and not targeting specific units and thus punching titanium rounds through everything.
and ...
damnit. Stupid memory.

Well, I had a woody for it at the time.

It normally takes an extended amount time for Tau in their current state to get "down pat" and figuring out meta based formulas to win or draw (if the dice are agreeing with your choices that is).

If anything, I'd recommend holding off on using that army'O'Tau until some redundant yet positive, forumitis-type posts regarding 6th ed with Tau come rolling around.

Greatly depends on your playing environment. If you are mostly friendly playing than they will do fine. It's only in competitive environments that they have real issues. If you are able to play your Black Templars without min/max Lascannon/Plasmagun Crusaders and spamming Dual CL Termies/Typhoon Speeders than you are competant enough to play Tau in anything but tournaments.
