Fluff-wise, Chaos Space Marines. I like rebelling paragons. And if the galaxy is in flames, I'm not gonna be the guy tossing buckets or water around. I'll be holding the kerosene sprinkler.
Rules- wise, used to be Dark Elder. I like the idea of a fast, deadly shooty army that also has CC teeth, but retains a sharp, exploitable weakness to make it a challenge. We'll see if that stays true in the new edition...
In Boxing matches, you actually get paid to take a dive and make the other guy look good.
In Warhammer 40K, you're expected to pay cash out of your pocket for the privilege of having Marines and IG trample all over your Xenos/Chaos.
It would have to be chaos in all of its forms for me. Chaos Marines, Chaos Daemons, Chaos Renegades or the Lost and the Damned, it doesn't matter to me as long as mutations and chaos influence are everywhere.

Necrons, because a good robot never stays down.
CSM, because being "good" is overrated
Tau, as much as they suck overall, crisis suits and railguns are awesome.
Gods? There are no gods. Merely existences, obstacles to overcome.

Dark Eldar. They hit hard, are super fast, and die in droves. It's fun for everyone; every game with the Dark Eldar is fun for both sides, as it's sure to be a blood bath with lots of explosions and the like.
My two favorites are, specifically, the Crimson Fists chapter of Space Marines and then the Imperial Guard as a whole. The Crimson Fists are dapper as hell in that color scheme, and are stubborn and steadfast, even for Space Marines. They show every quality a good Space Marine should, and are one of the chapters that put some effort into protecting civilians. They're undermanned and unlucky yet somehow manage to come out on top. Also, they're not exactly the most popular Space Marine chapter so I don't see them all the time when I bring em to the table
I also really like the Imperial Guard. Just average Joes with laser guns that may or may not work facing insurmountable odds and facing them with courage. Granted that courage might be because a Commissar is waving a gun and yelling at them, but courage is courage! I also really liket he aesthetics of the different regiments, namely the Valhallans I'm working on.
1: Orks. Do I really need to explain why? Fine.. they are crazy, hard as nails, have a sense of humor that appeals to me. They can fight anything and anyone without having to wonder as to why, because they are frikken ORks. And I can bash together the most insane vehicles and STILL legally field them. Because Orks can loot ANYTHING! WAAAGH!
ahem..
2: Tau. I like the fluff. I like their xeno allies , even if vespids suck ass. And I am a total Mecha fanboy ( and proud of it ) so their battlesuits make me giddy with joy. I only wish they had more of them. I would defnately love to see a new super heavy battlesuit the size of a dreadknight. And whats not to like about demi-god-like firepower? even if I do seem to always roll snake-eyes for my railgun shots.
Moving on then..
3: Tyranids. Fluffwise alone the nids are just awesome. An immeasurably vast swarm of alien killing machines bred to consume all life in the galaxy. The sci-fi geek in me is having a field day. And who doesnt like fielding big creepy gribblies that can crush a tank like a tincan and spit flaming acid?
Next we have...
4: Necrons. three words... IMMORTAL KILLER ROBOTS. Even if im not 100% happy with their retconned fluff, necrons are still totally awesome. Besides, they hate Eldar, and so do I. Eat gauss fire you pointy eared space elf gits.
Quickly moving on... we have a non Xenos army. what a shocker.
5: Traitor Imperial Guard. Okay so technically they are just IG, but hey I've seen some awesome army conversions out there. And perhaps someday I'll start my own. I just like these guys purely for looks feel and fluff. And with the new alliance rules The appeal of traitor guard and some juicy demons... well lets just say the hobby geek in me is excited about the possibillities.
So there you have it. My top 5 favorite armies.
Ork WAAAGH Zapzog: roughly 4000 points and ever growing. Tau Cadre of Zuran'Ki: 3000 points. Grey Knights Interdiction Force Galeon : 2500 points. Tyranid Hive Fleet Crateria: 2500 Points. The Host of Hadrekon: 1500 points. Catachan 44th Swamp hunters. 800 points.
2000 points Skaven Army. Arcsqueeks Horde 1000 points Vampire Counts Army. Duke Valmai's Court. 1000 Points Dwarven Army. Bhor Grimhammers Throng. Planning to get some Ogres later this year.
Curse you Snake-eyes!
1. Orks - Hilarious fluff, excellent crunch. Flexible and can be modelled and played in a variety of ways.
2. Guard - Tanks, Comissars and glorious grimdark bayonet charges FOR THE EMPEROR. Blob-guard is my favorite way to play them.
3. Grey Kights - Wait! It's not what you think. I adore only the =I= side of the codex - Coteaz and Henchmen can be modelled to just about any minority force under the sun of the Imperium - Rogue Trader forces, Skitarii, etc.
4. Tau - JSJ mecha suits and railgun cannons tied together with an asian theme. Goes well painted with J-pop and anime motifs.
5. Space Marines - Easy to paint. That's it, really.
DE - Sleep all day, party all night, live forever..
The Viletide: Daemons of Nurgle/Deathguard: 7400 pts
Disclples of the Dragon - Ad Mech - about 2000 pts GSC - about 2000 Pts
Rhulic Mercs - um...many...
Circle Oroboros - 300 Pts or so
Menoth - 300+ pts

I don't play Tau, but it would be cool to see the Crisis suits really be as cool as they look in a new codex. Right now they are easier to kill than a single space marine and that is just dumb.

Angels of Vengeance (DA successors) Normal DA's hold their ground well. We don't give up ever..... EVER. I like the idea of an army that literally fears nothing not even death.
8000 Dark Angels (No primaris)
10000 Lizardmen (Fantasy I miss you)
