If you have true line of sight with a cannon or bolt thrower for example, but you still have units of infantry or other in front of your warmachine, can you still shoot at your arget? The idea being you're shooting over the heads of those in front of you?

Can you shoot over the heads of enemy units in order to hit another enemy unit behind them?

If you're on a hill or other higher altitude yes.

If not no unless you indirectly fire the stone thrower. Cannons are right out.

Keep in mind that Cannons only need LoS to their initital target point. they don't have to see what the cannonball hits.

It is possable for a cannon to be unable to shoot because it can't see the ground because of intervening units.

Not true. The only requirement is to have TLOS to the point on the ground they are targetting. This can be achieved through other units.

You'd be hard pressed to find line of sight through a ranked up unit in front of you.

I think you can with Hammerers. There is a gap between models.

I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...

Or with some Cavelry and Monsters.

If you can see it, you can shoot at it.

Heck, even most massed troops have a lot more gaps than people realize. Deny LoS is a VERY tricky exercise.

I suggest you don't believe anything posted by thedarkavenger unless confirmed by other regular posters here at Dakka. He has shown he is incapable of basic English comprehension.

Hard pressed != "right out"

You made a blanket, general statement that is incorrect. Being hard is not the same as being impossible.

And the target point being obscured means jack squat for Cannons as they are not effected by cover. Only Bolt Throwers care, and its actually pretty harsh on them.

They have to have TLOS to the point on the board they nominate, so it depends on how "obscured" the point is
