Trying my hand at painting... not the best, but trying... any advice would be great!

Nice work if you are new to painting, i think you have done a good job on the green. maybe try wash your silver then highlight it when wash is dry, keep up the good work.

What makes a good painter is experience, which is a commodity you’ll have to pay with green bills of time.

Try watching a movie or start in on a box set from your favorite tv show. It helps the time pass quicker.

Sounds like sound advice there, though if I start watching one of my favorite movies or TV shows, I'd never get paint done, or I'd have colors where I didn't want them =). Maybe I will put some podcast on in the back ground, lord knows listening to a 11th company podcast will kill 3 hours.

Thin them paints down! I use maybe 2:3 water:paint ratio to thin my paints down. It might take 2 or 3 layers to get it opaque, but you won't have a "painted texture"

Also, really try to get as thin a layer of paint as you can. Keep brushing the paint around so it shows no paint streaks.

Another good tip is when doing paint chips, use a tiny piece of sponge (like dishwashing sponge) to dab on the paint.

Keep it up!

Also there are some pretty good painting videos on youtube. They'll help introduce you to techniques.
