There were a couple of older posts regarding 40k gaming in the Raleigh area and I just wanted to get an update. I'm moving to Cary, NC in a couple of weeks and would like to get an idea of the 40k scene. I've looked at the websites of the various stores and many don't have forums or seem to have organized 40k events. I wanted to see if there were any other gamers in the area and if there was any input on the FLGS in the area as well.

Thanks,
Chris

Hey, there are quite a few gaming stores in the area, but none of them seem to have much in the way of 'league' play. Cary has Gamer's Armory (lots of emphasis on board/wargaming), Hangar 18 (more oriented towards RC car/planes, but has a lot of modeling supplies, and regular gamers), and All Fun & Games. AF&G used to have TONS of gaming boards and pretty regular 40K gaming, but they have moved recently, so it may resume, or shake down in some other fashion. Right now, they seem more heavily invested in CCG tournaments than wargaming .

Raleigh has Game Theory (which has also moved recently, so I can't really speak for their new space), and an actual Games Workshop store. Most of these places have regular 40K gaming nights, but I don't know what they are at each store. However, between all of them, I think you should be able to rustle up some regular games.

All Fun & Games used to host 'Ardboys qualifiers (and had a ton of good scenery), so hopefully, it will still have a pretty good gaming population. Gamer's Armory is super nice looking, but I usually see more roleplaying groups and board gaming groups there than wargamers (but, hey, I manage a store, so I'm probably working when their customers are thickest!). None of the stores seem to have a lot of organized 40K stuff going on (except, of course, the actual GW store), but all of them have tables to play on (although Hangar 18 is tiny, and their tables are usually covered with RC gubbins).

Good Luck!

Raleigh also has Endless Gaming (unless it's closed down since I left the area in March). Very nice store with 2 permanent Realm of Battle tables, painting tables inside, and can set up tables outside in the hall for overflow. They also have LAN gaming set up. There's a bar in the "mall" that they're in, so you can get a drink in between games (can't take it back to the store). Hit Point occasionally has tournaments. They also had a 6th ed release party, and even a Super Bowl Party.

Aberdeen has Hit Point Hobbies. They host tournaments somewhat regularly (just had one on the 21st). Occasionally they hold Apoc battles.

Also, if you're willing to make an hour and a half drive, there's a the Gamer's Guild in Spring Lake (North of Fort Bragg/Fayetteville) and Hobbit Hobby in Fayetteville. The Guild usually has 40k gamers there on Wed. evening and Sat., the Hobbit, I believe has gaming every Saturday, but requires a $2 "donation" to play or watch.

I'm no longer in the area, but you can still get some info on these stores from the FB page for the 40k guys in the Ft. Bragg area (has also expanded to Florida due to the group owner moving to FL, but still has regular posts from the NC guys and stores).
