Picking up the russians from PSC, I was wondering how to base them for FoW. I have some balsa wood lieing around, about 3/32' thick that I was thinking of using. Before I do, I had a few questions. First, is this too thick? Would it create issues in tournaments? Second, what are the standard base sizes to cut out (Rifle/MG teams, HQ teams, Light/medium/heavy gun teams? Third, about how many men per base should I expect with PSC? Finally, Should I worry that balsa wood might be too fragile for prolonged use?

I have 2 companies from them and getting the heavy weapons teams soon. Would there be a noticeable difference when I expand the force and use the bases they come with?

PSC is selling their own FoW compatible bases now as a separate kit. Their infantry/heavy weapons kits DON"T have any bases whatsoever - You have to get them separately (the same is true for all Forged In Battle Infantry/artillery kits as well - just to let You know).

But as a matter of fact, You can get lots of other third party made FoW bases from e-bay - plastics, MDF - it is easier to grab these than tinkering when making Your own IMO.
I just typed "FoW bases" in e-bay and voilĂ !

Anyway, here are the sizes
Small Base: 1 1/4" x 1"
Medium Base: 2" x 1 1/4"
Large Base: 2 1/2" x 2"

It's been some time since of used polystyrene so I might be wrong, but I would recommend using something a little more sturdy. Its up to you though.

What he is using is plastic card, its more than strong enough to do what he wants to do with it.. At 1.5mm thickness it will hold a host of metal models.. Best way to cut the plastic card is to use a paper trimmer.. Like one of the rotary ones.. I cut strips easy, fast and accurate with mine..

I've made plenty of FoW bases from .060 plasticard. but I've never used it to base infantry (only gun teams and vehicles). I'd go with the MDF pre cut bases for the PSC ones since it will be a lot less hassle.

Just out of curiosity how many figs go on a infantry base?? I have not picked up any FOW stuff yet so I am unsure.. But I feel the plastic card will be fine for it.. I have used it to base 28mm metal figs with no issues..

It depends of the team 1-3 guys a small base, 4-5 guys medium.

This might help.
