In general, not really. From my experience a lot of them are one/two piece, or require far less assembly than any other miniatures I've experienced - and also remarkably devoid of flash. It does make conversions a bit trickier than, say, warhammer models, but does also mean that it's very easy to get the gang out of the box and assembled.

Definitely. My first introduction to Malifaux was when I happened upon Seamus in his blister on eBay, and thought 'That'd be a fun model to paint'. A year later and I own five different gangs and am championing Malifaux at my local club and store, running weekly demos and introducing people to the game... The models are great fun to paint, though, and one of the main elements that keeps me lovin' Malifaux so much. A lot of the sculpts are really filled with character, with little details that just make them more than another model.

Again, without sounding like a deranged fanboy my answer has to be yes. As mentioned, painting the models was what first introduced me to Malifaux, and the background and rules mechanics where what solidified my love. The background is outlined on Wyrd's site, and there's so much more than just what's up there - from the stories in Wyrd chronicles to the narrative worldwide campaigns such as Dead Heat. Regarding the game mechanics, Malifaux uses a deck of cards instead of dice, with each player having a hand to switch out for the flipped card in most circumstances - giving you a bit more control over your luck! It's really fun to play, and makes a very welcome change from rolling dice and cursing a sudden stream of 1's
Hope that was some help!
