In the 80s I read a book about a first strike scenario made by Nato forces. The attack was led by an American general named Mackay. He had the clouds seeded, which caused a massive snowstorm and attacked with infantry on snow sleds and ATGMs.

Has anyone got a clue as to the authors name or book title? Any help would be useful. Also front cover shows a partial chess board and pieces.

Thanks in advance, RB

Probably not the most helpful link here, but:
http://www.amazon.com/War-Genre-Fiction-Literature-Books/b?ie=UTF8&node=10195 should at least give you something to look over for the cover.

I tried using search words in Google and keep getting Red Storm Rising by Tom Clancy (great book btw, but not what you are looking for), sorry.
