Per the special missions Scouring etc... they allow fast attack troops and heavy support to be scoring units. However, on the scoring units page of the BRB it references these and says troops only can score and they can just now contest. So which is right?

Second question: Can a unit in base contact with the relic in the mission 6 prevent another unit from picking it up?

Example: run to be in base2base with objective but cant pick it up until the end of movement phase. But an enemy unit moves into b2b with it in there phase... can they pick it up?

Both of these came up in a tournament today so it is interesting. Thoughts?

Not sure what's confusing about either of these.

Normally only certain Troops are scoring. In Big Guns and Scouring, specified additional units are also scoring. The specific mission trumps the more general scoring rules.

The only things which I can see would prevent a scoring unit from pickup up The Relic would be if another scoring unit is already holding it, or something prevents the unit from actually moving into contact with the relic.

Alright well it mentions they are scoring and states they can contest but only troops can score right after that sentence I believe its on page 123. In addition, what if you have a fast attack flyer?

Again: NORMALLY, under the GENERAL mission rules only certain units can score

SPECIFICALLY certain missions state they can score.

Specific > general

I know but it specifically mentions those two missions on the scoring units page and then contradicts itself. Is no one else seeing this contradiction?

Contradictions exist all the time in the rules.

Take Heroic Intervention for example. You can not assault when you arrive from DS, Heroic Intervention contradicts this rule.

Here is the part that makes it seem as if they become denial units but not scoring units:

Spoiler:
An Army's scoring units are normally all the units that come from the troops selection of the Force Organisation chart - the main exceptions are in the big guns never tire mission (see page 128) and the The Scouring mission (see page 129). The presence of other units within 3" of an objective may deny an objective to the enemy but only troops can control it.

I guess maybe I am reading into it too much...

Yeah, it's a tad bit funky in the way it's written, but that line you underlined is moving on and talking about scoring units in general terms again. Otherwise, HS and FA units in their respective missions would never be exceptions and would functions as they do in every other mission (denial units only), rendering bringing them up as scoring units in the individual mission rules and noting that they are an exception to the general rules on scoring completely pointless.

And, again, you are misrreading the sentence. That is a separate sentence, just talking about denial units.

The mission SPECIAL rules override the GENERAL rules. Thats it.
