I've been trying to toy with ideas of making Galruach more survivable in the current warmachine heavy enviroment, and looking over the other characters I spotted something that may work.

Seeing as Gal isn't a monster(not listed one, nor is he called a Dragon either by the rules), he should beable to join units. the idea I have is stick Gal in a big block of Marauders led by Festus, a BSB and the real kicker, Wulfrick. have the whole unit stay in reserves. in this way my opponent will have one, maybe two turns to engage Gal with their warmachines, then he should be on them. The BSB giving Gal a reroll to the LD test at the begining of each turn, Festus giving him a 5+ regen to help against any cannons or catapults that may hit him.

the rest of the list would be three blocks of warriors, two with MOT and shields, one taking the Blasted Standard the other the Rapturous Standard, to help incease survival and staying in the fight. the last block would be MOK warriors, with halberds and Banner of Flaming attacks to deal with regen monsters. a single six man chaos hound unit to help mislead and charge block.

so what does dakka think, also if this doesn't belong in tactics, or I am wrong about Gal not being merely a character, I apologize for the slip up.

You say what he's not listed as. But you don't say what he is listed as? Don't have my WoC book on me so I can't check but I'm 99% sure his unit type is monstrous creature.

he isn't actually, he is a large target, and has fly, but never is he listed as a monstrous creature in the WOC army book. Dragon Wizard, simply labels him as a Lvl4 wizard, and thats it. as far as I can tell he is a character.

According to the reference pages in the rulebook, he is listed as monster. I know army book > RB but if/when, as you say nothing is listed at all, use the RB.

This, the reference pages in the back of the rule book are there to bring army books from previous editions, more in line with current BRB's in regards to troop types etc.

yeah thats what I feared, I don't have the main rules on hand. welp back to the drawing board it looks like, it looked too good to be true. though him being listed in the main books leaves me with some hope of him still being in the new WOC book. here is hoping he will get a better Ward save.

Um... the rule book was written YEARS ago. So long ago, in fact, that any units from any future WoC book will not be in it etc

So Gal being in the book doesn't mean he will be in the next army book. It's still pretty likely, but the rule book's almost as old as the WoC book, if memory serves...

Well, he still suffers from the main flaw most monsters have: ridiculously OP war machines. Until...well...9th fixes that, you won't see any monsters or big creatures like giants on the battlefield.

Oh wait you are serious? So you never see Hydras, HPA's or Terrorghiests? Yah that must be a 9th ed thing

Personally, I think the fear of cannons is really overhyped. Only 3 armies have cannons(Empire, Dwarves, and Ogres)

Skaven just make all things cry, not just big monsters(and their cannon isn't really a cannon persay)

Galrauch's biggest issue is his flimsy 6+ ward. He needs at least a 4+ for how expensive he is. And maybe Lore Master.

Self-proclaimed evil Cat-person. Dues Ex Felines

Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.

Regen saves and a way to heal wounds back up make a world of difference. These are exceptions to the rules. When monsters have more then just scaly skin or reduce price, we may see them return.

Please notice the wording "wont see any". That is a no exceptions statement right there.
