Hi everyone

I had this list all planned out for 5th ed but then along came 6th ed and blew it out of the water. How viable is it now and how could i improve it to be compeditive? Also you will notice some wierd choices, but I love the beastmaster models and the fluff, and those razorwings are nasty and can suck up wounds. Also I love the talos model, and although I should probably get another ravager instead I do want it

The basic idea was for the archon to go with the incubi and go elite/hq hunting and have the venom go shoot random stuff, the same thing with lelith and the bloodbrides. The warriors were just there to put a huge amount of shots into infantry and the beastmaster was just going to be a pain. The ravagers would go tank hunting and the talos would do whatever it wanted really

Is there anything i should change?

First read the 6th ed book, there's plenty of changes that leaves a lot to be desired. Anyway a lot of people would say that Lilith is way too expensive, but her armor ignoring attacks are beast, and the model is gorgeous. Use her for casual (or perhaps proxy her model for a Succubus if you really like Wyches). You only have 2 troop choices! Turn those bloodbrides into a wych sqaud because they do just about the same (but also score). You also don't need those flickerfields. If your ravagers are in a good spot, then move them like an inch to get that jinx save. If however your going second, then just hide em in some cover (or behind your other units) and hope your opponents don't wreck them on their first turn Other than that, the list looks fun for a casual game. From a competitive view however, your looking at 6-9 venoms with some anti air options, i'm sure more experienced guys can help you out on that.

Hard to know where to begin tbh

1st - you do not have enough troops. 2 x 5-man squads in AV10 vehicles will not win you any objective game (that's 5/6 missions). Unless you table your opponent every game you'll be playing for draws at best.

2nd - you have a fully mounted army except for two units. Beastmasters work with this in a way they couldn't during 5th edition as they now move 12". The Talos however is stuck moving half as fast as the rest of the army. It is far too easy to isolate and destroy.

3rd - you have no answer to enemy fliers.

4th - you have a 400 point 'deathstar' CC unit which relies on a paper aeroplane to get into range. and a 250 point 'mini-deathstar' CC unit which also relies on a paper aeroplane to get into range. And both of those units have low toughness. And no cunning ways of exploiting wound allocation against well positioned enemies. And no invulnerable saves versus shooting.

In answer to the question 'is there anything you should change'? I hate to be cruel but the answer is, well, just about everything...

Have you thought about the Axis of Evil pension scheme?

I Agree that a lot has to be changed but how would I do it?

Honestly, it may be a little too early to say how DE can adapt to 6th ed. Haywire grenades are op, but wyches suffer from overwatch. Phantasm grenade laucnhers may be the way to go (and haemonculi) to give you stealth and fnp. Large warrior squads in splinter rack raiders are nice on paper, now that you can move and shoot, but I fear that they cost too much and give too little antitank. DE can make good deathstars with eldar allies, but is that really balanced? If I was making a pure DE army for 6th, I'd start with a wych cult. Haemonculi, Wyches, raiders with disintegrators and some HS.

I came up with a new list. I got rid of the talos, which was quite painful, but it made sense to. I also got rid of the wyches for extra points and am going for a venom spam. I was kind of going for that with my other list anyway.

Are there any other workable dark eldar lists. I sounded like a wych cult army got nerfed, though thats the list I'd love to play. The only other list I know is a heamonculus covens, though i dont really like those models

Thanks in advance

Ok, the second list is much better than the first - its more focussed and covers more of your bases.

You need to look at your Beatsmaster list. I don't have the book handy but I don't think you can get 6 clawed fiends. Do you mean 6 Khymerae? Khymerae are better in a mixed unit anyway for the invulnerable saves they provide.

The other thing I would be tempted to do is swap your Ravagers and ADL for Voidravens. They are harder targets and can skyfire against other flyers. It also alleviates potential problems with using fortifications in pick-up games (per the rules you should deploy fortifications before placing terrain which can get tricky as you'll normally be playing on a pre-arranged board if you go to a store/club/event/tourney/etc.).

Finally I'd look at you Archon's wargear. I like clone field for the role you have in mind (i.e. sticking with a guard of Incubi) but they will run into problems attacking entrenched enemies. Get a PGL to give assault and defensive grenade effects to the squad (and remember your Archon can throw his own Plasma Grenades in the shooting phase if you need to). Also look at swapping the Power Sword for a Huskblade or Agoniser. You pay a lot of points with the power sword for something that you'll invariably need 5's or 6's to wound on, has no other abilities and will only cause 1 wound at a time against enemy charcters (assuming they fail their inv save).

Hope this helps, good luck

ok thanks for that, i will refine my list soon. The clawed fiend(s) were a typo, i meant 1 not 6.

Does anyone know any other list builds?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Just updated the list, changed the warriors to wyches for a bit of AV, changes the clawed fiend to 4 kymerae, kept the ravagers as they seem to be the cheapest AV thing around (for me) and gave the archon a PGL, couldn't find points for a huskblade or agoniser though
