I'm conflicted. I want to make a Night Goblins list though I don't like the idea of getting destroyed every time I play. I don't want to have a 0%~ chance of winning in a battle. Is this possible? Or is going for a themed list generally saying, I will only ever have a chance of beating other themed lists?

Goblin lists work well. They have access to a lot of warmachines. They also have numbers on thier side and a few hard hitting units. They're a lot of fun. Like OaG, if you expect to be competitive at times your at a disadvantage (animosity can hit at the worst of times). The only issue is their low ld. But even then the amount of things you get make up for that.

My advice to you is this. Squigs.

Specifically, a 30/15 squigs to herders block as flanking support to a 50+ block of Night goblins. Those mad toothy space hoppers have 2 attacks each at weapon skill four (I think) and str 5. They don't have a save and a toughness 3 though so be careful with them. also, squig hoppers are brilliant for catching and eating fast cavalry due to the random movement goodness they have (Turn then move, and no flee reactions against them)

Oh and take a BSB and a warboss, regardless of points. Even then you're only leadership 7.

As for the competitive side, you can have 10 war machines and 3-5 chariots (if pump wagons) and still have enough points left over for over 200 goblins, monsters and assorted characters at 2400 points.

Rolls for the dice god!

Themed lists aren't insta-lose.

I agree with the above, Squigs are underrated. They are Str5 double attacks at cheaper than any other unit in WHFB (as far as I know) with the same stats. Problem is they are Obnoxious so you can't just stick some cheapo hero in to give them LD. They really tend to go nuts. Hoppers don't have animosity but they have random movement. Still, both units can do massive dmg.

War machines are good. Fanatics are a gamble. Arachnarok is super duper good, though that's not really night goblin.

With the cost of NG heroes and Lords, you can have an army that's chock full of them with magic items everywhere.

Themed lists can work well, it just depends on the theme.

That said I wouldn't describe a night goblin army as a themed army.

Goblins work as a classic hammer and anvil. Use large units of NG's (with front rank of heroes, Stubborn Crown etc) as an anvil, with suigs/manglers/trolls as hammers. Support with cheap war machines and some wolf cav/chariot chaff. Fun, and works well....

When they have nothing those crafty little buggers wouldn't have underground (So squigs/hoppers/manglers/night goblins) and use thier own characters rather than the higher leadership gobli bosses and more stable goblin shamans the damned well are.

More so than yet another nuln theme list consisting of cannons.

Rolls for the dice god!

I faced a full out goblin wolf rider list and got beat severly.. It was amazing that my dwarfs were getting beat in combat.. and as soon as I outright destroyed a unit there was a fresh one to take it's place... very devestating
