Hi there, have just finished a game with a friend and was only our second game using the new rules and we came across one minor stopping point that we couldnt work out which way was correct in the new rules.

Basically I had charged a Dreadnaught with DCCW into a unit of 'nid warriors including a prime that was already in combat with a tac squad.
after the other initiative steps had taken place i was left with a warrior with 2 wounds and the prime in base contact with my dreadnaught, plus another warrior alive with full wounds further away
I then inflicted 1 wound with the DCCW, now the dilemma was did i get to do the instant death wound to a model with full wounds as per shooting attacks (5th ed style) which would be the prime or would the wounds be applied to the warrior with 2 wounds.
The problem we had was finding clarification on wound allocation of instant death wounds, old rules used the term "whole models first" but we can find no such mention and are looking for clarification.
Very unique situation but we cant find an answer via google.

Any help/thaughts/suggestions/rules reference if weve missed it would be greatly appreciated just for piece of mine
Just to settle it so we could get on with the game we used the old "whole models first" thing and took the wound on the prime but allowing a look out sir

The wounds go to the model in base first.

And the controling player chooses which models to apply the wounds to.

Not hardly unique. This will come up quite often. I don't mean this to be rude at all, but do you guys both own rulebooks and did you search this forum?

Biggest suggestion I can give for learning the rules is to treat this as a new game. Far more people are struggling with 5e baggage than are benefitting from applying the prior rule set.

The player who owns the models allocates the wounds from closest to farthest. If there are 2 models in BtB (like you say) then he can allocate it to either model. Chances are he would choose the one with 2 wounds.

And there is no "whole models first" anymore.
