Interesting new kickstarter. The Oculus is trying to reach out and give the average gamer a virtual reality headset that is both affordable, yet engaging. Several industry people are quite interested in it as well

Though this kickstarter is mainly for developers

Thoughts? Think Virtual reality can start being a force in gaming?

VR could really be a force in gaming if it works correctly and become affordable. I mean whats better than actually feeling a part of the game world where a turn of you head lets you see more of the land rather than a wallpapered wall?? I would have to say nothing.

I would really like to see this work as intended, heck they have a game for it already so it must work in some form.

One issue I do have is when they decide to progress it further ie not just a headset but a full body suit. I don't see anybody with a large enough space to play say Skyrim without walking into things in the real world. To simulate walking you could lift and lower your legs but doesn't create any momentum of moving forward which I think is what VR should be aiming to do. Being able to make any action you do have some form of action within the VR world is really going to be tricky to work with real world hindrances.

Still looks very interesting so may need to follow this. Hopefully it doesn't just drop out of the news loop like an improved graphics thing I posted about a while back.

I don't think so...
In the past it might have failed but we've hit the point where we can do it.
This seems like it could work and even the Devs think so.
This seems very impressive IMO...
I hope it doesn't got to OTT though. Not everyone will have these so making games that exclusively use them could lead to problems for some games...

Maybe I'm drunk (I'm definitely drunk) but I don't get the appeal. I don't see what your average gamer will really get out of this. It seems like a cool idea, but more the kind of thing I'll wait a year or two after it releases to see what games it works with.

Plus, I remember the lessons of the Lawnmower Man, and am leery.

I can see it making gaming more immersive even if it was only a 3d screen you wear on your face.
If it adds something to gaming such as added controls or similar then i can see t being even better...
Though i'm not entirely sure if it would necessarily be a great thing given how things never seem to work as they should...
Nevertheless, this combined with the motion controls from a few decades in the future should make for an interesting gaming experience...

Considering they have at least 1 million in donations so far that'd be a real bitch...
