Flower Picking Eldar Youth

Since sixth edition I hear flyers have been made way better. This worries me as I will be seeing more and more flyers. I play Eldar and can't tell what vehicle/unit/anything would help me deal with these. So will everybody give their opinion of which Eldar model will help me bring down these flyers the best and why.

Without IA your options are limited. The most obvious is a Fortification of some kind with an AA gun. Eldar have several units which can use them very effectively, a Dark Reaper Exarch manning a Lascannon with Fast Shot is fun, as is a Fire Dragon Exarch with Crack Shot and Tank Hunters.

You next best bet is taking your own flyer, probably by allying with Dark Eldar but Guard is possible as well. Eldar's only option for flyers atm are IA.

Other than that you have to rely on T/L weaponry to get hits, which isn't too bad given that every Serpent has this and you have access to Guide to give other units re-rolls. Given your mobility you can often seriously limit the amount of damage you take from flyers, there 18" move and (often) small blind spot in front of them (guns can't depress) means you can often move underneath them. Against a flyer spam list you zoom forward turn 1 and park about 6" off the board edge, making it next to impossible to target you.

Easy, 3 warwalkers with 2 scatter lasers each fortuned by a farseer. Any flyer in the sky is going down quickly. That is a unit that every Eldar should have by defualt.

The best unit, in my humble opinion, to take out fliers is to take a fire dragon exarch with crack shot and tank hunters along with an aegis defence line with a quad gun and stick him on there. You're hitting on twos re-rollable, and can re-roll your armour pen rolls, and you ignore cover so no evading or jinking possible. With four strength seven shots, you are either destroying the flier or severly damaging it. Not only that, but it is also fantastic against any army that has a lot of 4+ saves, due to the ability to ignore cover. Do remember though, that if you are facing a swarm of fliers (i.e. necron scythe list) then you can't just rely on one unit to save you, so make sure to take other units that can hurt fliers.

This. You should already have 3 scatterwalkers and a farseer in just about every eldar army. So guiding them should be simple. AV13 is where the problem is like was mentioned.

I take said walkers + Aegis defense line and turret. I hope that is enough. Only time will tell.

My only issue with warwalkers is that you really need to hold them in reserve against an all flyer army, and guide doesn't interact very well with reserves.

An average length death ray could shred your entire unit on its own, and many necron armies will include three doom scythes.

You really should be trying to go second, holding the walkers in reserve, and then hoping to use guide in subsequent turns. This is because most flyer armies will have enough combined firepower from their foot/mech elements and their own flyers (which are guarnteed to shoot you first) to down 6 out of 9 war walkers.

It is still the best solution outside of fortifications and allies, but it isn't an elegant solution. I imagine eldar will be getting a flyer and some white dwarf rules any month now, and that will make these list building decisions that much easier.

Of course you have the option of adding a razorwing to your force with allies. BS 4 and two darklance shots should be able to take out a flyer. Then add the aegis defense line with the firedragon exarch and you should have the answer to any flyers.

2x BS4 Dark Lance shots is not that hot

vs AV10 you will average 1.11 hull points with a 44% chance to destroy
vs AV11 its 0.89 hull points with a 33% chance to destroy
vs AV12 its 0.67 hull points with a 22% chance to destroy

Given the most common flyers you will see in 6th (at least until the new codices start to drop) are Nightscythes and Vendettas, both of which are cheaper and more heavily armoured than Razorwings... Eldar/Dark Eldar need to look elsewhere for a reliable anti-flyer solution.

BTW the best use for a Razorwing is Dissintegrators, Splinter Cannon and Monoscythe Missiles. This is awesome against FMCs and does a number on any non-vehicle ground unit regardless of type (MCs, artillery, hordes, termies, it can go for them all )

While you sleep, they'll be waiting...

Have you thought about the Axis of Evil pension scheme?

In your squads, doing the chainsword tango

I would have thought that with most flyers being AV10-12, S6 spam would serve eldar just as well as it did before
