Hi forums,
I've recently started to look at Infinity and just fell in love with the models. The system also looks quite logical and detailed to me.
I started wargaming with 40k (what a surprise), then switched to WM/H about 2 years ago after a couple of years of GW-pain.
Now I have quite an extensive PP collection and I play WM/H in a competitive environment, so I'd like to keep my Infinity collection fun & small (oh, the naivety!).
So... I couldn't decide which faction to start yet.
I really dig the looks of many, so I try to gather information about them first.
I watched many available youtube videos, and I'm reading the rulebook.
I started this thread to hear you guys about a couple of things that I'm interested in...
1) Is it possible / viable to run a Nomads army composed predominantly of Remotes? I really love their looks. If it is, what would you add to the list to support / protect your Remotes?
2) I really like the idea of sectorial armies, and (due to the limited selection of models) collecting one would also aid my weak self discipline when it comes to purchasing miniatures...
I collected the pictures of the models from the Corvus Belli site available in each sectorial to see how would they look together as an army, so I'm quite familiar with their styles, but not with their playstyles. It would be great to hear the general feel to the mechanisms, or overall gameplay characteristics of the below:
2a) Both Nomads sectorials
2b) Both Haqqislam sectorials
2c) Imperial Service sectorial
3) Honestly I strive to be different. It's sometimes a disadvantage, but I can't help it. So I'd like to hear your opinion about most popular armies / loadouts / models. I'd like to avoid those...
Or if I don't, then I want to use them uniquely. Yup, it's always about my own way... I just love to 'abuse' neglected models and make them surprisingly awesome in a unique way.
Anyways, it's probably a lot of non-coherent babble that I wrote here, but I'd love to read your input about any of the listed points.
Cheers!

First of all, welcome! I'm fairly new myself and don't you worry about having a small collection: you only need a handful of models for you to play.
I am also new, so take my answers with a grain of salt.
1) I think so? Although you would need a Lt., and I don't think Remotes can be Lieutenants. Disadvantage also goes to you since if it's the only human, it's most likely the Lt., and killing the Lt. will cripple your team a lot. You will also need hackers or TAGs to get remotes, and i think they share their orders with said hacker/TAG (correct me if I'm wrong).
2) Again, not familiar with Nomads but dabbled a bit with Haqqislam sectorials. Hassassin Bahram is full of, well, assassins. You could field three impersonators with this, or load them with a lot of Muyibs (which are experts of heavy weaponry). With Qapu Khalqi you get the benefit of having an additional fireteam with odalisques, and having tough troops (Janissary, Odalisque, Druze Shock Team, Azrail). But really, there is no set playstyle: it all depends on your choices and how you play them out.
3) No popular loadouts / models so far, unless it's for the rule of cool factor: meaning most people use miniatures that they think look cool. Infinity is a game where you can get away with buying models that you think look badass and they will do well. "Neglected" models are basically the ones with old a relatively ugly sculpts compared to the new ones. It's not like 40k where there are lists to beat and must-take units: you choose what you want and as long as it's a legal list, you can more or less make it work.

Salamat for your reply heartserenade! I'm not thinking about a list filled exclusively with Remotes, but about one that is built around them. It's nice to see that you have all the opportunity to find your own concept. Still I believe there are more popular factions and less popular ones, even if it might vary with regards to your local meta...

Well right now we have lots of Haqqislam players in our gaming group, but I think that's because Haqqislam has one of the best sculpts when it comes to starter sets. Nomad starter sets are old sculpts and while they're not bad compared to other miniature lines, they're not as nice as the newer ones.

As sort of a buying guide you can make some sample armies on the free army builder on their website.
http://infinitythegame.com/dt_army/
You certainly could do a remote heavy force for Nomads but there of course will be problems with it as well. First of all you are required to take a Hacker or TAG. Hacker is no problem with Nomads. The below list is perfectly legal, however REM's suffer from low ARM and BS for a lot of points. They are also big so they can not take advantage of some cover and get through some places. But Nomads have some of the best REMs. They have skills like Climb Plus and are fast.

Well I'm a beginner so I'm aiming for like 150-200 points first, not more. I tried to fiddle around with the army builder and I see how hard it is to fit stuff into 150. To be honest I prefer the look of the Sputniks and the Salyut to the Zonds. The worst (looks-wise) for me is the Meteor Zond even though I hear that it's pretty solid. For some reason I always tend to dislike models that turn out to have great rules. :S Is the below utter nonsense? This is Bakunin Sectorial and I'm thinking about linking the Moderators. Any reason why there are 2 groups ? =)
The reason CDK slit his list is because a group has a maximum of 10 orders
Your list has a total of 9 orders so splitting it into 2 groups only reduce it's potential efficiency
EDIT : Nomad Ninja ! Automatically Appended Next Post: Other than that useless information you already knew, it seems solid although maybe a little short ranged.
I'll let Nomad players give their insights =)

At first I was going to say there's no Hacker but I forgot Zoe is an engineer/hacker. So it's legal. It's not bad but yes it's short ranged. I don't think there's much need for the Clockmaker.

Yup, realized right after posting that it's unnecessary. Even though I also realized that I don't have a Lt. in the army, so most likely the Light Grenade Launcher guy has to be dropped. Edit: Another n00b question: the rulebook says that you can use 1 SWC point /50 army points. I mean is it each spent 50 pts or each started 50 pts? If I end up with 199 points can I use 4 or 3? Automatically Appended Next Post: BAKUNIN JURISD. COMMAND ────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── GROUP 1 (Regs: 9/Irrs: 0): REVEREND CUSTODIER Hacker Lt. Combi Rifle + Marker / Pistol, Knife (38 | 0.5) MODERATOR Spitfire / Pistol, Electric Pulse (16 | 0.5) MODERATOR Paramedic Combi Rifle / Pistol, Electric Pulse (13) 3x MODERATOR Combi Rifle / Pistol, Electric Pulse (9) TSYKLON Spitfire, Marker / Electric Pulse (37 | 1) LUNOKHOD Boarding Shotgun, Heavy Flamethrower, CrazyKoalas (2) / Electric Pulse (29) SIN-EATER MULTI Sniper Rifle / Pistol, CCW (39 | 1.5) 199 Points | SWC: 3.5 ARMY CODE: Army Infinity v.3.0. Even though it's 200 pts, not 150, but the Sin-Eater should help solving the short ranged problematic. The Moderators would be linked all 5, obviously with the Spitfire guy as a TL.

You'd get 4 as the swc is worked out on the points of the game, not the points you spend!

Coolio, thanks!
Also I'm curious what happens when a linked paramedic wants to heal someone? Is it forcing the rest of the team to do nothing? It might still worth it as it's still a single Order...

Daktari (or Avicenna if you have the points)would much much better to heal but you would lose your 5th man...humm...
Sin-eater will help but only in ARO as he has only 1 Burst in active turns

Yup, I read that. Even though with proper positioning I can imagine that he can do much for the short-ranged parts of the army (like the Lunokhod) by closing down lines by his ARO shots. Still it's pure speculation as I have nil experience.

I think it results in you breaking the team - in the same way as a Lt would using the Lt order.

Like a paramedic as in a LI model with a "medkit" upgrade or a Trauma Doc, 112 Emergency Services type model? Is the former worth taking? Can you even put the latter in a link squad?
I just bought my army pattison so I'm with you on the newb stuff. ^^

You can put paramedics in many link teams (PanO can with fusiliers - but they're significantly worse than a nearby trauma-doc given the same price). Trauma docs can't be linked though. Some factions can do Doctors in link teams (Haqqislam, especially). Some can do engineers in link teams.

The Paramedic does essentially the same thing as the Doc right? but it performs as the "Standard" model as well? Or am I misinterpreting it?

A model with the doctor skill uses his WIP to heal
A model with a medikit uses the target's PH-3 to heal
So if your Doctor has WIP 13, it's much easier to heal (for example) a Moderator because a medikit would need to roll against 7 (PH 10 - 3)

Useful comparison, thanks!
I also realized that the medikit is a much thinner chance than a proper dak.

Hi pattison and welcome to Infinity
I play Bakunin Jurisdictional Command and am currently using this tactic with a reasonable degree of success:
Take a reverand custodier as your lt and take moderators with markers (I don't go as remote heavy as you want to so I usually use a 5-man link team with 2 markers, a spitfire and 2 order monkeys, this gives me a boost to the mods poor BS).
You can then hide the Custodier and a Vertigo Zond (with guided missile launcher) and let her hack through the repeaters or use her hacking device plus to act as a forward observer though the repeaters to safely drop guided missiles on your targets.
