I was wondering, should I load out my Templars with Bolt Pistols and Chain Swords or Boltguns? I'm thinking Chainswords, but are boltguns a good idea? Should I mix and match? Or should I stick with Bolt pistols and Chain Swords?

It's a question I struggle with as well, I just go with what seems appropriate. Meaning that if I want an assault army, I drop most of my Boltguns, but if I want support units that I can feel comfortable enough to not go charging into an enemy when I don't want to, I take them. I don't know, it's tricky.

Well, I'm doing a Drop Pod army (well, considering it). But I want it to be assaulty. I can't assault out of drop pods, but that Bolt Pistol Chain Sword combo makes Accept Any Challenge a lot more awesome.

Boltguns, definitely. They're rapid fire, which was buffed, and CC was nerfed.

See I agree with Demdiddydizzy because of the BT special rules. Getting pulled out of cover with just Boltguns is not an ideal situation. I circumnavigated that by allying my force to a hybrid armor IG army, and just have a drop pod and assault marines... doesn't get much more interesting than that let me tell you, people cry over this list.

Accept Any Challenge, combined with a squad of Bolt pistol and Chainsword wielding Crusaders lead by a Chaplain (considering Accept any Challenge only gives out another attack now instead of re-rolls) seems a lot more scary than if the marines were to just wield Bolters. You have more quantity, not as much quality. The Chaplain refines that quality. Even if this squad doesn't get the charge, that's 3 attacks base per model. 1 base + Chainsword/Bolt pistol + Accept Any Challenge. Charge, and you've got around 40 dice rolling there (give or take a few)

Though, I am most certainly not saying boltguns are a bad idea. At all. Some boltguns on the field would be helpful. Don't know if it'd work in my list. Still working out a point cost-efficient list, but I know it will include a support fire dread and at least 3 Typhoons.

But possibly I could throw a boltgun or three into my squads?

In 5th edition, I normally had one or two 5-6 man shooty squads with a plasma gun and a lascannon or plasma cannon. These guys will sit back on an objective and have bolters with them.

I'd also have a rhino or two with 9-10 Chain Sword + Bolt Pistol Templars, sometimes running with the Emperor's Champion or other IC.

In 6th edition, I might run a mix in the rhinos, or have one rhino filled with 10x dudes with bolters and one each with a heavy/special weapon. Another rhino might be more combat oriented, sporting CS/BP and power weapon/fist.

It all depends on the purpose for that unit.

I only use boltguns in my shooty squads, ie. laz, plaz, rhino and camping on a objective. Otherwise, I have used them in a command squad, 2 melta guns, all bolters, drop pod.

Other then that, I always use bolt pistol, and chain sword.

Well, most of my units will most likely consist of 8-10 guys with a Powerfist/Power Weapon and a Meltagun. They're mostly for CC. But I was thinking of possibly throwing a squad of Bolter Marines in a rhino or something.
