Subject: BA question regarding 6th Ed. and Capt. Tycho...

So since the release of 6th Ed. and GW desire to totally screw me on my HQ choices... I previously had been running Mephiston or Dante as my two favorite sons for HQ. Not saying they are horrible options now but they use to be amazing, and now that Dante's attacks go to at I1 and Mephiston isn't the Holy that he used to be. I'm wondering what peoples opinions of using Capt. Tycho for my HQ choice, he has the Blood song which gives him a pretty awesome combi weap. and then his deadman hand is a CC weapon the by the book and is not covered in FAQ ignores all armor saves... How do the new rules effect this as I am still a little shaky on the 6th Ed.(I have only played 3 games with it so far and all have been with my Necrons). Help please.

Be careful about mentioning Dante. There are a LOT of differing opinions on how he works now and it tends to open a can of worms.
As for Mephiston. I still think he is good. Not the beat stick he used to be, but you probably still want a psyker and he is one of the best.
But to the question of Tycho. I think he is a solid choice. I just don't think he really brings anything all that great to the party. I you need an HQ he is good enough. I just feel sort of Meh about him. Of course I haven't played with my BA's much in 6th do to having TFG scream about me MFA on my Fleshtearers.

Deadman's Hand is not a CC weapon, this is also stated in the FAQ,
It is simply wargear that provides bonuses, one of them being that his attacks ignore armor. Because of this he can kill 2+ at init, which is pretty cool. Then he can reroll a failed wound and gets +d6 against vehicles.
IMO a decent, cheap character meant to get stuck in with the enemy, though a librarian is a better force multiplier, and cheaper.

Tycho has drastically improved versus 5th. That means he's now usable, although I agree that a Librarian is still probably the best choice. It's still way better for him than the situation in 5th.

I'm definitely thinking of taking him in one of my new lists. However I do still think that an Epistolary is a more solid choice. I'd probably take him in a Sternguard squad with a drop pod to throw around their special ammunition. Either that or in a Death Company blob.

In my opinion Tycho suits a more "codex" army as he is a dual function unit focused mainly on shooting (works well with Sternguard) rather than the close combat beatsticks that we traditionally see Blood Angels characters as.

Thanks for the catching me on this I totally misread the FAQ... as for the Libby I would have thought that having a 2+/4+ save would be a better option even with all the psyker attacks. A Libby to me would be a good back up choice but for smaller games (and maybe my tactics are still not perfected) you would want a Tycho type piece...
