Subject: Empire Armies On Parade, Sept. 8th Result

Well I finally decided to start a Dakka P+M blog, after about a year of lurking in the shadows (appropriately, as you will see...)
Now, a couple of disclaimers.
When it comes to this hobby, I have severe ADD. I will often jump from one project to another, to another, often never even starting the one in between
I have an odd sense of humour. I like silly, but clever silly. Appropriate silly. Well, not always. Please dont get offended Internets!
And now for something completely different. Models.
I have a couple of things going on right now, Finishing off a Custodian Army that I sold, the buyer has commissioned me to do up a couple of new units for said army, so I will endeavour to keep you appraised of that as it progresses.
For now, here is a picture of a counts-as Dreadnought (Legio Cybernetica Construct)
(There will be a Link to Showcase thread with completed models in my sig eventually)
Also, I recently finished painting about 3-3.5K points of Empire, so it is time to do a Display Board, and also I figured why not go for Armies on Parade too! More on that later. All I will say is that it involves a Fortress, Orcs, a firing archer (bowering?) squad, at least two chickens, an outhouse and gravity. To keep you entertaining the idea of square-base madness, here is my often lauded, more frequently cursed, and always entertaining Steam Tank, Sigmars Wrath
(again, link to Completed Empire army in my sig)
Finally, with 6th ed just out, I decided to start a new 40k army. And its a new direction for me, in that I will finally be joining the dark side and doing an evil force, and in this case, Night Lords (yay Naughty Batmanz!). I want to take my time with this, one-guy-at-a- time type deal. Especially as they will be True Scale. And doubly so because they are based off ADBs Night Lords Trilogy, so I want to do justice to such an excellent series. So without further ado, here is the first completed model of the Tenth Company,
Talos of First Claw
Now I need your help. Banner, or no banner? Also, needing some ideas for basing...
Cheers for reading, or:
tl:dr = hi, here is a picture, thanks

You should add in the pictures of the shoulderpads you made me, they are great. And when I paint them up I'll show them painted on here if you would like.

Ok, so Talos' base is built, and just waiting on the undercoat drying. In the meantime, Im working away at these boyos.
Not much to see atm, just a Tin Bitz undercoat, but I have converted them into being a fully wysiwyg Paladin Squad, and used the last of my RT-era Grey Knight Halberds/swords.
Oh, I have mostly finished the Land Raider though:
Stone weathering is completed now, just need to add a few scratches/dents here and there...

Thanks DJ, they are really rewarding to do. One of my friends got me to do some for one of his own commission pieces, seeing them all done up in his style I felt so proud, it was all "Hey, I made those. They are pretty!"
Rose tinted glasses off for a moment, Talos' base is (almost) done:
Wanting it to look like they are onboard Covenant of Blood, so really dark, decrepit, old ship. Ergo, rust, busted wires etc. Just need to finish the wires and highlight the rust a wee bit.
(If anyone has ANY tips on painting sparks, that would be awesome.)
More progress on the Custodes:
and a shot of how new paints weigh up against the old paints so far:
I really cannot see a massive difference, although there are a few more layers to go...
In other news, went out for the day with the missus to the recently opened "Titanic Centre" in Belfast (I know, only in Ireland would we celebrate building a ship that played a really really poor game of chicken) and DAMN, that thing was HUGE! Standing next to a 5 story building will give you some idea of the height of the thing...

Cheers Progreen, glad you like them. The guy who bought them obviously likes my style, he has just asked me to recreate the "Hover Rhino" from the HH artbook, create a ten-"man" tech guard/skitarii unit + Transport and a ten man PH imperial army unit + their ride too! Looks like il be busy for a bit!

Subject: Japehlio's WIPs of Various Things and Sizes - Day 5, Commission Harlequin Kisses

Rightho, well after about twenty minutes, I knocked up this prototype of a Harlequins kiss, the criteria of this commission requiring 25 Harlequin Kisses to be made and sculpted in place on the harlequin models.
As I said, this was just a prototype, no filing/details as yet, just wanted to get the basic shape/size down, as that tube is actually rather tricky to deliberately do (a cone, but curved, and fighting gravity.
Anyway, here:
Im tempted to mold and cast them up, but itl be tricky making a 2-part press mold for them, and my experiences with rubber molds havnt been the best...
In painting news, Talos + base has been finished, left in local store for a chaos competition. Added a body to his open left hand. No pics, Im hoping to get a picture of him standing next to the winners medal (aim high, aim high, aim high)
For now, its on to more shoulder pads! YAAAAY!

Well, the shoulder pad commission is nearly finished, 5 more termi pads to do and then its done, here is where I stand:
there are a couple more basic PA pads too but nothing of note.
In other news, later on I will have pics of my armies on parade project, which has been started, the custodians, 5 of which are almost done, and Talos, since the comp isnt till October now.
Actually, here is the current state of the AoP board:
Any c+c?
Cheers

Ok, thread focus is changing. Shoulderpads are done, Custodes are 90% done, so for the next 10 days, this is all about armies on Parade! (deadline is the 8th...)
I'll upload some progress pics later on, but for now, plan is:
Castle wall (as above), and muddy land/overgrown floor.
-handgunners on the wall, interspersed with some 'sentinel' greatswords
-dreadstone blight tower in big white square (plasticard paving slabs) with the commanders around a map
-flickering LEDs to provide a 'candle'effect
-outside, burning pile of orc corpses (thanks to Beastwarrior) with more LEDs for fire and smokey cotton wool
-wrapped/shrouded empire corpses laid out for burial
-archer firing squad for some captured Orcs
-cannon-accident mini diorama
-soldiers toppling an idol of Gork (or Mork)
That should be it, hopefully it wont be too crowded, but also not too boring.
Wish me luck!

Right-ho, bumper update time, and with just over a week to go!
Here you can see the general layout of the board, the base of the mud and where the grassy field will be:
Close ups of the mud:
(note how I have tried to build it up in the corners/around the walls, imitating real mud, and the footprints up to the gate)
Here is the interior, the large white square on the right is for a movement tray, and I'll be building around one on the left too
Also, I used the (fantastic) Dreadstone Blight kit, going to be a cutaway view of a tower where the commanders will be gathered
Interior of the tower:
And with the lights off (on)
Also, layout of some of the accessories that will be featured:
Close up of the crane that will be hoisting a mortar to the tower top:
Thanks for looking, gonna be finishing off the basing, then its on to paint!
Also, if anyone has any suggestions for "mini dioramas" they think would be cool, Id love to hear them...

Well, its been a few days but I have been hard at work on this baby:
Here is where we are at now:
(Interior)
(you can see the crane in place on the right tower, the soon-to-be aflame Orcs at the bottom left, the Commanders' tower top right. The large blank squares are for two ranked up units, Halberds and Swordsmen.)
Close up of the crane:
(Im quite pleased with that tbh)
Close up of the two chaps responsible for the Orc bonfire:
(some work to do on the skin n all, but I think the fire is done, any thoughts?)
Close up of the Commanders' Tower:
(side wall)
Some of the many decorations around the place, including the pile of Orc corpses:
In every battle, their are casualties, and still to be done is the small empire burial site, thought it would be an interesting image, burning Orc corpses one side, neatly buried Empire dudes the other. Also, started on the firing-squad...
So, any comments/critiques?
cheers
Jap
