Trying to figure out an Empire army. After coming to the realization that Humans aren't going to be beating Ogres, Orcs or, Elves in combat any time soon, I have decided to go with a more shooting oriented list.
LORDS:
Battle Wizard Lord - Lore of Metal, Level 4
HEROES:
Battle Wizard - Lore of Metal, Level 2, Dispell Scroll
Captain of the Empire - BSB w/ Standard of Discipline, FPA, Shield
I figure with the Engineers babysitting, the Halberds to hold off anything that does get through with the BSB + Warrior Priest, and all the WM I'm bringing, the best thing to do would be to castle up, use the Halberds to flank / absorb a charge, and ideally get some +1 hit or other nasty things with the Lore of Metal. While Lore of Metal wouldn't work well against the average Ogre or Orc, a lot of the other abilities aren't bad against the times i do run into fast moving Cavalry.
I was thinking about Pistoliers instead of the Halberds, but I need some more points in Core, and the Pistoliers probably won't cause as much problems as the Halberds could.
What are your guys thoughts?
(Oh, and when I bump it up to 2500, it'll most likely have a Steam Tank (or maybe even two?) sprinkled in with the possiblity of switching the battle wizard lord to Gelt. If I decide against it, I might throw in a witch hunter for Brace of Pistols + Mark shenanigans, or maybe add those pistoliers.)

Well a tiny point, no point givin priest an ahw, as he cant pair it with biting blade for +1 attack, give him a shield.
I would also consider giving engineers pistols at the least, stand n shoot ciuld cause the critical wound against fast cav.
You might want to slide the ruby ring in (somehow) as an extra fireball can remove a chaff unit easy enough, as target saturation could be an issue for you...

The Wizard General would probably be hiding in a Handgunners unit. Maybe I should drop a handgunner from each squad, since otherwise they are just standing in the back being useless. Dropping two handgunners gives me enough points to give the Wizard Lord a 6+ ward, which is better than nothing, i suppose.

Thanks for the heads up on the biting blade - I've switched it to a shield. Another thought could be to drop the Warrior Priest altogether to get a level 1 Lore of Fire wizard to take Fireball, and park him with one of the Handgun units, or even just thrown in with the Halberds.

Do not, I repeat, NOT drop the warrior priest. Hell, if it comes to it, drop the two mortars (and take a Hellstorm instead) and free up points that way...
Mortars are still really good, you just need to run Lore of Shadow for the debuffs.
Priests, however, are crucial
The main reason I wanted the level 4 Metal Wizard was to get Enchanted Blades for +1 to hit and magical armor piercing incase there's an ethereal army out there. (and because the thought of Final Transmuting a unit in the middle of an army and then making everyone around it stupid is great.)
Though, I'll definitely change the level 2 to Shadow. Maybe even drop a mortar to make him Level 4 aswell?

Personally, I would get a hurricanum and a massive block of knights if you want metal. The +1 to hit from the hurricanum combined with enchanted blades means that they will likely be hitting and wounding on 2s. If you have halberds, shadow will work better on your level 4 and a level 2 with fire or metal.
