I once read a thread about unlikely allies (think it was from bells of lost souls?) It was something like orks and DE, but now with my new chaos models I think I could tweak it.

My idea is to use the AOBR orks as the main army for a green tide, and then have the chaos lord, chosen and maybe the auto gun cultists follow behind to mop up any survivors and challenge the HQ's. the fluff reason is that a captain of a marine company is embarrassed by his past failures against the greenskins and falls to chaos to defeat them, bringing a world's PDF with him to the worshiping of the dark lords.

sounds plausible?

I don't think they compliment each other very well as they have units that do pretty much the same jobs.

Chaos would work better with demons or guard.

Orks would probably benefit more from 'crons or tau for some precision shooting.

I can see a unit of nob bikers being a good combo with CSM, though it's be very point-intensive. It would be a fast, sturdy mobile threat to draw fire away from your core units.

But yeah, now that chaos is getting dirt-cheap cultist, the main appeal of orks (big mobs of troops to bubblewrap stuff and guard objectives) loses a fair bit of steam.

In Boxing matches, you actually get paid to take a dive and make the other guy look good.

In Warhammer 40K, you're expected to pay cash out of your pocket for the privilege of having Marines and IG trample all over your Xenos/Chaos.

Chaos Marines would pair well with Orks in that you would have mobs of cheap Ork boyz supported by comparatively elite Chaos Marines. Cultists are kind of redundant with Orks.

I do remember reading back in 1st or 2nd edition fluff, that orks would sometimes fight alongside chaos. Because their life is so simple (all they want to do is fight), chaos holds no temptation for them, so they wont fall to chaos if they interact with them.
So sounds good to me.

Sweet! would ask what kind of elites for chaos but now with the new codex around the corner I think i'll get skinned alive
