Subject: IG [2000pts] - Does it have enough anti-horde?
I'm pretty happy with this list, especially against elite infantry, but I was wondering if it was capable of standing up to hordes as I haven't had chance to play against one yet? I'm hoping the amount of autocannons, the demolisher, and the devastating executioners would be enough, as i'm working towards a TAC list.
LR Executioner (Sponson Plasma Cannons) - 230
LR Executioner (Sponson Plasma Cannons) - 230
LR Demolisher - 165
= 1975
After taking out the demolishers sponsons I also have 25pts left.
(Disclaimer - I should mention that be no means at all am i a WAAC player, infact quite the opposite; but after having a poor army list for most of my time playing 40k I've finally built up to this list but now it comes across as a bit full of cheese haha! So please don't hate on the list for that - just trying to make an optimised list at the moment then I'll play around with it for friendly games)
Any helpfull insights or comments would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
Automatically Appended Next Post: A few specific questions I had... if i drop the voxes and an IS plasma gun and possible the IS melta bombs I can get 65pts free for either:
Marbo (so much fun to play + can do some damage)
IS 4 (autocannon + melta bombs)
Chimera (for the CCS but not necessarily needed + 10pts spare)
I haven't found voxes worth it so far and am tempted by the 4th infantry squad to increase numbers.
Thanks

I would drop all the vox and the lascannons in the vet squads. Also drop a meltabomb in your IS and you have enough points to field Marbo like you said. He will do more damage and cause a lot of distraction. Since your vets are mobile why take a 20pt gun that can only snap fire anyways?
I'm on the fence with plasma sponsons. Pretty good chances of rolling ones and you only have 3 HP.

Yer I guess there's a lot of things I can do with the extras, I could also scrape another melta storm trooper squad in there... I will play around with the list and try out the options like Marbo etc.
My veterans are quite defensive, especially the first few turns - that was my thinking behind lascannons but the points may be better spent as you say when other things are dropped too. My main thought was that most of my anti tank is in reserve (storm troopers and vendettas), so the extra lascannons might help the first few turns for that.
With the executioner I wasn't too worried about that but I have been thinking of using multi meltas instead.
This then goes back to my initial thoughts though that I'm focusing too much anti tank and heavy infantry, and will struggle against hordes... Guess I'll have to test it!
Thanks

Wow... got enough plas? I hope you roll well. Ha, your dudes could be Dark Angels trained PDF... Marbo is good, but he's kinda like a cruise missile, it only hits one target. Mebbe throw out a few of your Las and Plas and run a handful of Flamers and HB's for the horde fix? Also, an extra squad is nice if you dont use orders that much, but then, why are you playing IG? The orders let you punch above your weight quite a bit, so dont forget that. Voxes save the day when you get bad rolls.
Laziness is no excuse.

From my experience, and other IG players, HWS are dead by turn 2. Every opponent I've played thinks their a priority 1 target and hits them with Str 6-8 weapons. Instagibbing them. I'd drop them. I run a similar style list.
Troops
Platoon
PCS: Autocannon
PIS: Power Sword, Flamer, Lascannon, Commissar with Power Sword
PIS: Power Sword, Flamer, Lascannon,
PIS: Power Sword, Flamer, Autocannon, Commissar with Power Sword
PIS: Power Sword, Flamer, Autocannon
Caboose, what you say is true. When I see IG, I look for HWS and LR, and send my assault squads to squish em fast. The Vendettas are nice with some of the new rules, but beware the almighty missile launcher.

+1 vote for dropping the HWTs. They don't last long enough. Put those weapons in PISs where they can have 8 other ablative wounds before they get hit.
I'm not a fan of power weapons in guard armies, I feel they tend to be sniped out due to wound allocation, but each to their own. If you took out all the power weapons in Caboose's list, you'd have enough for Marbo who will make you smile and your opponent frown.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh also a few points savers:
The lascannon on the chimera mounted vets. 15 points for something that's going to be snap firing. Doesn't sound cost efficient.
The plasma pistol on the suicide-melta storm troopers. I doubt that's going to make it's points back, those STs will be blown off the board once they take their shot at a tank.
Demolisher - it's a fire power drawing tank that doesn't do a lot, you want anti-horde, take an exterminator.
If you're still worrying about anti-horde, you could make one of those Vendettas a Valkyrie with missile pods. They're decent.

Star Trek taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, Klingon or even female...
