The Peripheral

The other topic I started was about funding this dream. Complications aside, the main issue so far is apparently finding a consensus of how to implement the game to satisfy the 40k playerbase. For now I simply want to hear my fellow hobbyists' dreams. This thread is a brainstorming one. Any and all idea's are welcome to be discussed because we're just going to pretend we are the devs of the next 40k video game (with an unlimited budget.)

So the question remains, what do you want?

Another Space Marine but with the thing from DoW 2: chaos rising were you can chose to be good or turn traitor.

Wit more enemies, not just orks; dark eldar would make a nice change.

So, specifically a third person shooter / hack and slash brawler with SM's as the main character(s), a line of corruption between "Savior" and "Damned" (terms just for illustration), and more variety of enemies.

I can't say I disagree. I'd like to add a few things to this list, but I don't want to influence other's fresh ideas yet.

The only video game I want for 40k is a game that tries to copy the table top as close as possible. 1:1.

That's it.

3 ideas.

a Toy Soldiers style game with good humor of the 40k universe with IG vs Orks or other xeno races

anti infantry turret:
1. Heavy Stubber
2. Heavy Bolter
3, Entrenched Punisher Leman Russ (or punisher turret)

Anti Tank:
1. Missile Launcher,
2. Auto Cannon (or change AC and ML around. due to strength)
3. Las Cannon

Mortar:
1. HWT mortar
2. Heavy Mortar
3. Bombard / Collosus

Artillary:
1. Still thinking. its between a Field gun (like a Battle Cannon) or a Gryphon but thats a mortar...
2. Earth Shaker/ Basalisk
3. Manticore

Anti air.
1. Duel Auto cannons on AA mount.
2. Hydra
3. AA Manticore version or something with missiles.

"Misc" weapons: (this is based in humor)
1. "Banewolf" with a giant bug sprayer
2. "Hellhound" with a bottle of spray turned into a flame thrower
3. "Devil Dog" that uses fireworks to relentlessly throw fireballs at targets.

Much like Toy Soldiers: Cold War you could have barrages and such.
Off map Basilisk Barrage
Marauder Bomber carpent bombing
Orbital Strike (Naval craft fire upon target) akin to "Nuke"
Super Heavy Assault! (you get the ability to drive a Baneblade around in all its glory. its main gun is devestating and all its heavy bolters independently target foes and fire. secondary fire fires the demolisher cannon), its the "Commando" of this one. Origionally considered a Space Marine. but a Baneblade is Waaaaaaaaaaaaaay more powerful then a single Space Marine.
i cannot think of a barrage that would be similar to a AC-130. will likly leave that out.

2. Total War style 40k.
Very simple. each faction represented within it at the huge scale of Total War. with Hive Citys and such all in-game. along with units like Titans.

3. A counter to "Space marine". Instead your a Kasrkin or Storm Trooper but travel with a full squad and mow your way through Orks/eldar/ whatever. you can carry all the differnt weapons avaiible to a Storm Trooper including Plasma, melta guns and such.

I havn't had much time to think it all the way through. But at some point It needs to havea sequence where you get to command a Leman Russ or Baneblade in the cinimatic style of Space Marine, taking on legions of foes and their vehicales. the Baneblade sequence could end with a battle against a Titan-like foe (probly a smaller titan varient like a Stompa or something, or at most a mid sized one equivilent to a Reaver titan).

But the on foot parts are more squad based and stealthy as you cannot take on the same foes as a Space Marine but with tactics and smarts as opposed to brute force you can kill foes like a Space Marine.

A tad optimistic, to say the least... Just sayin', the only way that'd be possible is in a strategy game, y'know, like Dawn of War? A FPS or TPS will not work...

Anyway, I'd like to see something similar to Halo Reach but with Guardsmen fighting against Chaos. Like Space Marine, but more 40k like, no running into open ground and surviving a plasma cannon to the face.

Wait, why wouldn't a story told from multiple points of view work? Even Halo is told from the viewpoint of the Arbiter - at key times as well.

Either third person shooter or and FPS of a more tactical flavor (well... as tactical as it can get with 40k) where you are a stormtrooper or something or maybe even a marine scout or some kind of battlefield style game with huge battles and ridicilously heavy vehicles and such.

I shall rule the world someday utilizing my cuteness. And I already have one minion to help me do it!

RTS is fun an all but i have a real disconnect from it when it comes to enjoying the game... id unno i am amazing at just about any other style of game so to me 40k is better set as an action story. I would personally love to see it turn into a more dragon age themed game with a choose your own adventure fall out style almost. for example I would like if you could create your race with some facial customization and basic editing of basic gear (like DOW colors and emblems ect.) By choose the space marines you start a intro map perhaps of you starting as a basic human being accepted into the program for a space marine.

For orks it immediately throws you into battle and no one gives you any pointers you just learn as you go

For eldar you start the game in the vision of your farseer trying to desperatly fight a specific doom your craftworld is going to face

I would say nids would be almost impossible to do this way

Chaos i think could be done, it would be challenging though probably starts from one of the other stories committing great sins for power and you come to prove they are unworthy and then pledge their souls to chaos

Tau would be decently civilized and almost more political based with word of attacks coming to tau sept worlds and you deploy to fight them off until promoted to make your own decisions

Dark eldar.... i suppose could be done but it would get repeative.... raid and torture... raid and drugs... raid and torture. Well, on second thought maybe defending the black library? I dunno

Necron shouldn't be done too optimal for baddies like nids.

I had an idea for the next 40k game a while ago.
A tie in game for 'Warhammer 40,000 - Space Marine' called 'Warhammer 40,000 - Eldar'

Same style of game play but with more of a combo system (or an assassins creed like system) for combat to represent the Eldar being speedier. Also introduce some AI companions that stay for the entire game as one Eldar destroying an entire ork horde wouldn't really work with the fluff.
Make the main enemies another horde, either Orks or Nids? and then have some Dark Eldar come in later in a similar way to the chaos in space marine

But the real twist is to make the online cross over with Space Marines, creating a faction of Eldar and Space Marines vs Dark Eldar and Chaos

Tactical Marines - Eldar Guardian
Assault Marine - Stricking Scorpion
Devastator - (cant remember the name of the aspect with the big guns )
Maybe the introduction of psychers?
The introduction of Rhinos, Wave Serpents and Raiders could add a few new aspects to the game along with maybe some heavier tanks.

Not sure if I explained it well, but just my 2 cents

An FPS such as Call of Duty, Killzone, Halo etc but obviously set in 40K 'verse. Potential settings, storylines and enemies are pretty much endless. A single campaign could vary from fighting over a key, strategically vital world from the POV of a PDF or IG grunt against a single xenos invasion or Chaos uprising... to a sector-wide crusade that switches from an IG grunt, a Storm Trooper, a Thunderbolt pilot*, a Leman Russ tank commander, etc and pits you against a wider variety of foes. SP campaigns would be gritty, engrossing and a mixture of choosing your own way forward through the battles with a few epic, cinematically presented set pieces thrown in to drive the story/maintain the "cool factor". Gameplay would be tactical, where team tactics such as fire & manoeuvre, covering fire, outflanking enemy firing lines before they do the same, calling in air support and mortar fire, etc and not just running around the level shooting infinitely at infinitely spawning enemies that just run and stop at pre-determined pieces of cover only to pop out into your waiting crosshairs... *yawn* Then on top of that, for those who care, is the MP. Again, just think of the CoD/Halo MP and put it into the 40K 'verse and the endless possibilities there.

A 40K version of the X-Wing/TIE-Fighter games. Those are some of the best SW games, now think how awesome a space fighter sim would be as the various 40K factions.

An action RPG similar to Mass Effect but playing perhaps as the members of an Inquisitorial retinue, or Rogue Trader etc.

Now for some WHFB ideas:

Warhammer: Total War. Yup, you guessed it - a Total War game but with Warhammer Fantasy armies.

An Elder Scrolls-type open ended RPG set in the Warhammer World. Wouldn't actually be that different in terms of content, seeing as both settings share such common roots/influences.

Anyone remember that botched Pirates of the Caribbean game that should have been Sea Dogs II? Well, a current gen, polished adventure game like that without the bugs, mixing swashbuckling and age-of-sail sea battles and set in and around Tilea. That would be all kinds of awesome.

Those are all that I can think of atm...

If anyone has played Star Wars Battle Field (one or two) A 40k version would be cool where you can pick your race and fight on many a diffrent planets.
Or a variation of Fallout 40k version.

for a pure original game idk what theyll do, plenty of futeristig w/ many races have already been made.

On Nimbosa, cramming as many guardsmen into troop carriers as possible.

What I would love is a star wars battlefront 2 style game, you have some maps with dark eldar and imperial guard, some with space marines and chaos space marines, etc.....

I would preorder that as soon as possible!

I would love to see a Total War type game with all factions available to play.

Or a FPS take on Space Hulk, with you and a small team of AI terminators (on-line co-op?) in cramped confines of a space hulk fighting off genestealers and other alien factions who have infested the Hulk.

If it was a Space Marine 2 game with a similar game type, then I'd like to see more variety in enemies, more of them, harder to kill, but with an allied force that actually help you. I found that those SM on your team didn't really do much.

I used to say I would love a 1:1 video game conversion of tabletop, but that may ultimately be not as enjoyable as I would think.
Now, I would love it if they would make Battlefield: 40,000. Especially if they could make huge servers of 100 people (or more) on each side for huge, or, dare I say it, Apocalyptic battles.

Something like space marine but where you are in the Deathwatch. You could have corruption/insanity points as you face even more gribbilies and also there could be moral choices when you have to eliminate any witnesses to chaos taint. About 1/2 way there could be a point where you can succumb to chaos and then the game would have a totally different playstyle and ending. (rather than covert ops it would be more of a slaughter fest)
