In hindsight, that metal Hesh pattern bolter is awful. Don't like it at all. Should have just stolen the one from the plastic Ultramarine (who thankfully, doesn't have any Ultramarine bling on his weapon)

Here's a wee bit I did on one of the Dungeon Saga trolls. I've been on a bit of a painting burnout of late... just not getting much done at all.. The mould lines are such a pain in the arse on these things! I eventually just fethed it off and painted it anyway.

Cheers for the feedback all, I was thinking about maybe painting a bit of carroburg crimson, or some thinned down BFTBG on his stone axe to give it a "recently used" look. Also, do you think I should throw in some metallics there to give it a "cobbled together" look? Or just keep it as studded leather? Azalle- details wise, I think GW, Prodos and Minion minis do a far better job on their sculpts. Mantic stuff can be a bit rough-arsed (IMO) with some very soft details.

Hmm might mix it up a bit then.
On a further note, here is why you make sure all your models are well fething clear of the spraying area.
I was painting up my Deathwatch with some chaos black spray. Then my brother wanted me to do his Tyranid broodlord, biovore and Neurothrope in mephiston red.
All 7 of the Deathwatch team guys I was priming ended up like this. Balls. Now on the one hand it does make some nice osl. But probably would've looked better after I'd finished the fething models!

Disaster averted! The red paint didn't adhere to any of the Deathwatch marines! Quick dust off with the cleaning brush sorted it right out. The Emperor Protects indeed!

Hello once again! This evening I managed to get a game of Deathwatch Overkill in, cleansing the filthy Xenos as any loyal servant of the Emperor would!
I played as Kill-Team Cassius and my brother played as the Ghosar Quintus cult. For this first mission, the Deathwatch start with 4 marines of your choice. In this instance, it was Gryt(frag cannon)Sorrlock(Combi Melta)Donatus(using my DA Deathwatch bolter marine) and Cassius. My objective- To kill 25 Cultusts. The cult has to kill 2 of the Kill-Team. First turn saw me wiping the floor with the cultists, Gryt and Donatus inflicting some seriously nasty shooting with solid shot(frag cannon)Kraken and Hellfire rounds. Donatus in particular was a surgeon with the bolter, his Kraken rounds killing things on a 2+/3+. He also gets to shoot twice for both shooting phases in the deathwatch turn!
The Deathwatch deploy
The first kills..
As Kill-Team Cassius moves further into the Ghosar Quintus facility, my brother got some eye watering results with his Gambits and Ambush cards. The cultists start to surge out from the shadows to defend their home from those who would seek to harm their Four-Armed Emperor and his children. Donatus and Cassius are getting mobbed by 1st and 2nd gen cultists, backed up by Aberrants with power picks. Sorrlock and Gryt are also getting overwhelmed. I managed to kill the grenade launcher and mining laser cultists before they got a shot off, thankfully! I LOVE the frag cannon!!
With only 6 kills to go, Cassius is wounded by a lucky hit from the Aberrant's pick. But responds with a powerful couple of hits from his crozius, smashing the mutant scum into paste and firing a kraken round into the nearest cultist's face. Donatus and Sorrlock wrap up the mission nicely by killing the last handful.
You may be wondering why there's not much genestealer cult action here- I think to really make the cult effective, you're better off Lurking until the marines get close to an entry point. Otherwise, it's very much a shooting gallery. My brother's Genestealers can't really do jack at range without some heavy weapons, like a grenade launcher or mining laser. Yes, marines are pretty lethal at either close quarters or ranged combat, but you can certainly limit their firepower by bogging them down. I only really began to feel the pressure once the cultists started closing in here, by which time, I was not far from winning.
Overall though, I love this game! Just need to assemble the rest of the box set, since mission II requires all cultists, the Trysst Magus and Primus.
Oh and before I hit the hay, did a wee bit on not-Donatus' base to fit the underground mining facility theme.

Bottle wrote:Nice bat-rep! It does seem like playing the Genestealer Cult is much harder than the Marines. To be honest I am looking forward to the challenge!
I also wondered about playing through the entire campaign but not allowing the Marine player to continue with marines that were killed in previous games. Will you be playing mission 2 soon?
Well, to be fair in this first mission, the Astartes get to re-roll any dice that fails to score a hit in the first turn to represent that the Deathwatch team are expending lots of ammo to keep the cultists distracted from the 2nd group in mission 2, which is occurring at the same time.
Bravo team are trying to destroy the vox array, as they don't realise the enemy have brood telepathy yet.
As you go through the campaign, there are bonuses that can be carried through to the next mission. So, for this first mission, a Deathwatch victory gets no special benefits for the next mission. If the cult wins, they have a hand of 8 Broodmind cards for Mission 2, rather than 7.
Like I said, the genestealer approach is less all guns blazing and more, ambush and overwhelm, so it pays to wait and close in.
Mission 2 should be hilarious though. Delassio has the Black Rage special rule, so if he rolls doubles when using the chainsword (2A with Rend hits on 3+) he loses the flamer for the rest of the mission, but is granted 4 attacks with the chainsword. That, combined with being able to JP to Combat range will be pretty terrifying for the Cult player.
For that mission, we were using Cultists from DV mixed with a few of the 1st-4th gen cultists from DWO. They blend in pretty nicely! Just got the Trysst lads and the 20 or so cultists to assemble. I also need to paint some bits on Donatus, Suberei and Branatar before I stick them together. As well as fixing the brazier on the latter (ffs)

Sooo. this weekend while returning home, my DWO models suffered a casualty or two in transit. Anton Delassio, the Cursed Prince- his chain sword snapped off at the crossguard, so I've had to cut the arm off. The plastic was too warped to make a clean fix, so I've found a Death Company chain sword arm that makes him look a good bit cooler!
Branatar's brazier thingy needs fixing as well since that's now become a bit wobbly! Ugh. I should really lay these models on their backs in the foam.
Before:
After
Someone's going to have a serious case of chain sword to the face...

Trying to bring back my paint mojo with some Stormcast Eternals. That Star Drake has got me champing at the bit for more. Would make for a good scrap with a Bloodthirster! Noble hero on the back of a great drake battling a big nasty daemon=legendary. Got to finish my current Stormcasts first. It has been pledged. Anyways, my Stormcast scheme for Knights of the Aurora Chamber has changed a bit. Instead of shading the silver armour with Nuln Oil, I've used Coelia Greenshade. Gives it that nice greenish hue.I'm then going to layer up with Ironbreaker and Runefang for the highlighting.

Managed to get 2 games of Deathwatch in today, first of which was Mission II: Vox Noctis. For this one, you can't use the same characters as you did in the first mission as it's happening simultaneously. The Deathwatch can only field 6 so for this one I ran with Jetek Suberei, Garran Branatar, Jensus Natorian, Anton Delassio, Zameon Gydrael and Drenn Redblade. Victory Conditions Deathwatch: Get 4 marines to occupy all 4 of the energy cell zones at the Vox Array section. Genestealer Cult: Kill 3 marines before they reach the Vox Array. Board setup: To begin with, I sent Suberei up the right flank and Delassio up the left to try and get to the other end as quickly as possible. This would mean my brother has less time to gather his strength. Delassio's jump pack allows him to move up to Combat range instead of traversing 2 zones on foot. So that's about 8" give or take. Suberei is also pretty quick on his bike and can move 4 zones in a single move. His cyber-eagle allows you to sneak a peek at 1 of the Cult player's ambush cards before you move to allow you to make a judgement on where you want to move to. (shown below) My brother gets pretty lucky with his card draws for pretty much the entirety of this mission (bastard). Starting with Purestrains and a bucket load of cultists as well as a Magos. Though the latter didn't do very well with his Domination ability, all my team members ignored the voices in their heads and powered on through. So no reducing my marines brainless drooling genestealer prey. In hindsight, I probably should have sent more guys with Suberei and Branatar. My brother managed to get 2 mining lasers on one of his ambush reveals, and the extra firepower wouldn't have gone amiss! Picking your characters is pretty important. Grytt's frag cannon was sorely missed for this mission! After some frustratingly bad shooting from me, I managed to press on and close in on the target. Suberei blasts to the other end of the map and activates the teleport beacon allowing Branatar's slow arse to catch up (he can only move 1 zone at a time, but can fire both his flamer and the meltagun in each Deathwatch shooting phase!) Again, I suffer some really crappy dice rolls and struggle to kill that fething Magos. His psychic shield gives him and any models in the same zone a 2+ save. I eventually managed to bump him off with a well placed plasma pistol shot (Gydrael) and a few kraken rounds (Suberei). I think I could have really benefited from Edryc Setorax( RG) being in on this one, You can't shoot at him unless he's at Combat/Assault Range, and he only needs 2+'s to hit things with his lightning claws! Speed is definitely the essence of this mission, don't mess about! Try to kill the things in your way, cause a lot of the time the cultists can't shoot for gak lol. Saying that though, I spent a lot of time trying to kill the fething Primus and his mates. Bastard just wouldn't die. Truly, the dice gods favoured my brother for this one, as his autorifle wielding little gaks managed to bring down Branatar... the fething terminator!! Ughhh! Suberei followed shortly after that and then Natorian. MISSION FAILED. Campaign progress: Deathwatch 1 Genestealer Cult 1 **Edit: I also managed to get mission 3 done, but my camera battery was flat so no pics unfortunately. Deathwatch did manage to win this one! Basically I had to go fetch the silly Inquisitor's servo skull that was floating about. (Locate the C.A.T. Space Hulk mission, anyone?). This mission was a lot less stressful than Mission II since I had Grytt and his trusty frag cannon handy to clear a lot of the Cultists before they became a problem. The Cult get to use EVERYTHING for this one so I had to tackle the Patriarch on like, turn 3. Which was a bit daunting to say the least. Thankfully, the dice gods favoured me for this one! Cassius and I think, Suberei brought him down.( Christ it's so much easier to remember things with pics!) Setorax effectively breezed through the map and was in and out relatively unscathed. (He did take a wound, but I made a combat recovery that brought him back to full wounds ) Campaign progress: Deathwatch 2 Genestealer Cult 1

Can't wait for more :-)
Mission I is pretty harsh on the Cultists. Of the 25 of them you have to kill, less than half actually got close enough to shoot/stab the Deathwatch.
I got thrashed in Mission IV and V as well lol. The score is currently Deathwatch 2 Genestealer Cult 3.
Will post pics later today as it's a bit tricky to do from a smartphone. My dice rolls were truly horrendous last night.

My WIP Stormcast Eternals so far.. Ladies and Gents, I present the Knights of the Aurora Chamber. Needs some more Prosecutors with Knight-Vexillor (and possibly Knight Azyros) to reflect their rapid strike nature. Also got a box of Paladin Retributors (2 headed hammers).. might build them as Decimators(2 headed axes) or Protectors (Glaives) You can imagine, they'll look pretty nice in the colour scheme I've picked for this army.

Quick update: Been going back over some of my previous models and giving them some Coelia Greenshade to give em that lovely green tint. Also went back to my Lord Relictor and gave him some more colour. Sometimes the amount of detail on models can be really off-putting, painting wise. Painted the candles Ceramite White (though sadly, that fairly new paint pot is on its way out. Some paint has settled in the lid, so it now won't shut properly) and a wash of Seraphim Sepia to create that creamy white wax colour. Started on the hourglass with Fenrisian Grey which will then be followed by Xereus purple, Genestealer purple and finally White Scar to get that glass look.

Did a wee bit on my Lord-Celestant and Lord-Relictor this weekend, namely the Dracoth mount (face and horns/spikes) on the former and the Reliquary (candles and haft) on the latter. With the arrival of Imperial Knight: Renegade today, I took a break from my Stormcast Eternals to have a dabble with the as yet, "naked" Imperial Knight that's been sat doing nowt for a good while. Behold the fruits of my labour so far(bit rough arsed, but I'm just blocking the colours in at the moment): Not sure about the livery on the pauldrons- according to the codex, they have one section in black (allegiance to IoM) and the other for their House Livery (shown in pic above). Question is, do I add that green band at the bottom as per the shield, or just leave it in bone white? I'm thinking the latter so it doesn't clash with the shell on top. Thoughts? Also any suggestions for personal livery (gatling arm pauldron) would be great too! Thanks for looking!
