I just started collecting a 2000 point army of Eldar recently. I have yet to find a picture or really know what the thing is on the Guardian's shoulders that looks like a periscope like thing on their left shoulder area on some of them. I got most of my figures second hand as well so they were already assembeled. Is it for looks? Have a purpose or fluff?

I had asked my fried who has a huge Eldar army (we both played since 1990 or there abouts) about this question and he was not able to tell me much and it might be as he has older figures lol.

Rangefinder?
The Avengers have their own version of it (and a longer ranged shuriken catapult) and the training to use it though.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

yes it does look like it could be a range finder or a targeter type device. That would be very reasonable.

I assume each elf with one is the one who should be with the gun platform.

I am doing some more digging, i appreciate the reply .

If it's what I'm thinking of then I think it is something like a sensor cluster of some kind. the guardians with those backpacks came with the support weapon platforms (the heavy support ones). It makes sense (to me at least) that someone operating artillery would have access to something like that.

I take it we're talking about the guy in the top right corner?

It's just a targeting device. There's no extra rules for it, it's just to make the heavy weapon crew members stand out.

I was wondering this myself. I'm also thinking it is a rangefinder/sensor of sorts as all Dark Reapers have one similar. I understand why the general infantry has smaller versions but the reasoning behind giving a massive rangefinder to anyone other than the guy who pulls the trigger confuses me. I'm assuming the weird whip/gun thing is the trigger/target painter (akin to the "Wrangler" in TF2).

Yes thank you .

On a side note the guy on the left side of the platform what is that thing in his left hand? I have guys with that as well but have not figured out what that is either lol.
