Hey guys

So I've written this list out as a starter army for Kings of war which I am getting into (And hoping to make popular at the local club ) and I'm looking for any advice about how I can make it better

Elf Lord on Drakon = 150pts
Spearman Regiment (20) + Banner +Musician = 135pts
Spearman Regiment (20) + Banner +Musician = 135pts
Bowmen Troop (10) = 90pts
Bowmen Troop (10) = 90pts
Bowmen Troop (10) = 90pts
Drakon Riders Troop (3) = 160pts.
Bolt thrower = 75pts
Bolt Thrower = 75pts

Total = 1000pts.

What are your thoughts? Hopefully some of this stuff might appear in a blog at some point in the future... although don't count on it - I am a very slow painter

The new version of KoW has thrown a spanner into your list - Bowmen troops are now 120pts apiece (although Scout troops are now 105, so a more appealing option possibly).

My advice therefore would be to drop one Troop, change at least one other to Scouts, upgrade one regiment of Spears into Palace Guard to deal with heavily armoured foes, then add a few Magic Items (from the new book) in. Oh, and an army standard bearer would be a good shout too.

Doing this would make your army more suitable to showing off KoW as you'll be able to demonstrate more of the special rules (Vanguard, Nimble, Inspiring & whatever you get from Items).

“Good people are quick to help others in need, without hesitation or requiring proof the need is genuine. The wicked will believe they are fighting for good, but when others are in need they’ll be reluctant to help, withholding compassion until they see proof of that need. And yet Evil is quick to condemn, vilify and attack. For Evil, proof isn’t needed to bring harm, only hatred and a belief in the cause.”

I would recommend some stormwind cavalry in there too, and I second the BSB, especially with healing on him.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Thanks both of you for your help, I appreciate it.

Anyway, having got a copy of the rules book (And it's a very nice book!) I've been able to write up a point accurate list! I've taken on some of your advice - thanks for that - but for some things I've gone slightly different. So here is my updated list, please give me any feedback, I appreciate it

1 x Elven Prince on Horse = 70pts.
1 x Elven Army Standard Bearer (with heal) = 60pts.

1 x Spearman Regiment (with banner, musician, and blade of slashing) = 140pts.
1 x Spearman Regiment (with banner, musician, and mace of strenght) = 140pts.
1 x Stormwind Cavelry troop (with banner, musician and blessing of the gods) = 140pts.
1 x Stormwind Cavelry troop = 95pts.
2 x Elven Scouts Troops = 210pts.
2 x Bolt Throwers = 150pts.

Total = 1005pts.

I decided to stick with two spear man regiments rather than upgrade to palace guard because I wanted the cavalry to be the hard hitting part of my force and I think their upgrades will make them that. Also, for convenience sake because I've already got the elven troop models

Are bolt throwers any good, and is it worth taking them, or should i spend the points on bulking out what i think is quite a low model count army?

Bolt throwers are ok at damaging, but are fragile as heck, if you don't get the first turn their battery will take you out by turn 3 or 4.

far too many points and still painting...
