Hi there fellow dakkadakka members,

My friends and I have come up with an a new tabletop wargame game which we would like testing, it is called Battle Fortress.
It requires no dice, can be played with any scale models and from eras of World War II to Sci-fiction.

We would love some feedback on our game, either through dakkadakka, or to our email address.

To download the rules please go to our website using this link:

The rules are under the 'Resources' tab.

We are a small team of wargamers looking to make a big impression on the tabletop gaming world.

Regards

The War of Life Gaming Systems team.

Looks like an interesting system. I like the aspect of building units on the fly and each game revolving around destroying factories.
How do you find it to play? Do the games turn into a meat grinder of cheap troops being constantly pumped out of the factory? Do people ever just camp their factories with long range weapons and wait for enemies to come into range?

I'd consider moving from 50pts being the standard to 1pt, since it'd make for easier math and it doesn't look like any units cost less than 50pts. So then a provision hut would give 1pt, Scout Troopers would cost 3pts, Heavy Tank would be 6pts, etc.

In addition I think a different activation system compared to UGO-IGO might work well. The reason I think this is because it's so easy to kill units (just move into the proper distance) the player that goes first when weapons are about to come into range has a huge advantage. What I mean is if the turn starts with both sides being ~14" away whoever goes first will be able to move in and obliterate a huge chunk of the enemy force very easily.
Also I think forcing a unit to move before it shoots is a bit limiting. With so many great forward thinking ideas I'm surprised restrictions like this were in place.

Diceless is an interesting approach, I don't see that a lot in tabletop wargames (aside from chit based with charts)...in fact I think I've only seen it in RPGs. From the website I get the feeling you went for diceless as a reaction to 40k, but I think you can still have a tabletop game with dice that doesn't come down to a single roll.

Anyway do you have any battle reports? Always easier to visualize a game that way.

Thank you for your useful comments, it is great to see that you have really thought about the game and put some really great ideas for me and the team to think about.
We decided to have movement first then shooting as it was a format that some players would recognise; but changing it would really throw a different light to the game, thank you.
As you can tell this is very much a starting block on the diceless system for us, and came about as in our local beginners wargaming club, children had trouble with the charts etc and after playng this went away from the dice system wargames. I am in discussion with the team about having an advanced rule which could include dice, but hoping to finish the core rules first, which im sure you can understand.
In two weeks I am hoping to post a battle report using the WW2 forces on youtube, I will be sure to post the link here, website and facebook as soon as it is completed, so others can visulise the game better also.

From War of Life Gaming Systems, another really big thank you, this was the exat thing the team needed!

Kind regards,

D.Basta

You're welcome, and it's always fun to read through and up-and-coming game and see how the rules are structured.
Movement -> Shooting is more common for 40k players, but I've seen a lot of eyes light up when people realize they can do the move/shoot in whatever order they want. It makes a little more sense in a WW1+ game since troops would shoot whenever they need and move the rest of the time.
I definitely understand wanting to get the basic rules figured out before worrying about variants and advanced rules.
I'm looking forward to the battle report!
