I am open to constructive critisim here. I am still struggling with a few concepts on models. Eyeballs certainly being one of them. This model was extremely bitchy to work with too. I should have painted him before assembling him.

Hate that model. However, you have painted him up quite nice. I really like the color transition from light pink to black on the whip and the stimulant tanks on his back are ace. Overall, despite me hating that model with a passion, I think you've done him very well. I especially like that you did his armor in black rather than going overboard with the pink. For eyes, try darkening the eye sockets with a wash and then bringing out the raised detail with very light brush strokes. The contrast between the darkened eye sockets and the bright, unwashed eyes will make it so that you don't have to put very much paint on the eyes themselves to make them pop. Additionally, on some models simply darkening the eye sockets is sufficient.

I gott agree with Darth_bob. I have always hated this model, which is sad because I like the character and fluff of the Emperor's Children.
As far as painting notes. The liquid containers on his back pack, I wouldn't use pure white to fill in the empty space, specially since you have that purple skin/flag/ thing on the other side of it. The skin depth covering his armor is great, and you have a good use of washes on it.

I don't know why folks don't like this model. The detail & aesthetic are great. You just need to bend the whip & reposition the arms a little bit & you have (IMO) one of GW's best sculpts from a space marine line.

Overall I think you've done a great job. The fabric, the armor, the sword & the basing are great.

I'd recommend trying to make the transition in the whip happen over a longer range, separate the colours & enjoy the change so to speak. You have the means to make multiple colour changes down the length of those coils.

Also, consider filling the tops of his chemical reservours in as black rather than white. This causes the emtpy tubes to kind of recede into the rest of the model. As the white is currently the brightest colour you've used the eye is drawn upward to it & that takes focus off the rest of the model.

Beyond those two nitpicks, I think your gold looks fantastic, I've personally really struggled with metalics of all kinds - I can never get a result that looks natural, pleases me and isn't at least partially lumpy - and I have 10 years of model cars & five years of warhammer under my belt.

The faces in his armor are picked out niceley, the chemical supply tubes look nicely highlighted (little quible: you have a blue supply tube but no blue reservoir....)

Everything looks very professional except the vials. As the previous message suggested use a dark effect. Or try a jeweling technique to make it look like glass and finish off with a gloss varnish to make the vials pop.

Great Job!

Echoing what others have said, great work on the skins and the varying fluid levels in the tanks

Yeah, as far as the vials, I really painted this guy straight off the GW website but I I will try and do some high gloss stuff on them to make them shine like actual glass.

I struggled with metallics for a long time as well man. I personally found that you really need to thin down the gak out of them. I used reaper's "new gold" for this guy, and then gave it a black washed "also thined down". I personally use a little bottle of 1:1 flow aid to water. I typically will do 4 drops of metallic paint, and 2 drops of this mixture that I created. The downside of doing this is that you will have to do 3 or 4 coats of the metallic paint to get it to cover a white primer. This mixture will not of course work for every metallic paint out there, but my key is that if your paint is running past where you want it to go, use your finger to take it off, or a dry brush with no paint on it, and then add 1 or 2 more drops of paint to your mixture to thicken it up slightly. you want it to pool where you are painting but not thin enough to run all over the place.

The paintjob is great. I'm nonplussed on the Lucius model, but that's on GW. I plan on making one from scratch using Sigvald from the fantasy range, some gs, and some conversion action, but I'll be coming back to this thread as a painting guide. Nice work.
