Everyone likes using wire for some reason. If you figure out how to safely melt clear plastic, add color, and then have it set as lightning, let me know; it's exactly what I'm trying to figure out how to do.

From what I've seen sure wire can look awesome but when you sit and look at it "it's still wire", And the plastic would be great if I had the resources haha. I was think about maybe using the wire like a skeleton and then possibly molding some green stuff around it?

A bit of putty work definitely helps, even if using wire. The most common pitfalls are using an overly thick gauge and, partially as a result, having large radius bends. Using small bundles of VERY thin wire allows you to fork off suitably thin section over the length of each main arc. Puttying over the bundle smooths out the profile, as well as allowing you to sculpt sharper corners at your bends. Even so, working with two pairs of pliers, a vice and hammer, etc. to really sharpen up those bends is necessary to avoid the "wonky, curved paperclip" look.
I'd also suggest that this is one of those "less is more" situations. If you try to stretch the effect out too far, the fact that the bolts are simply lengths of wire becomes more and more apparent. A tighter, sharper effect is much more convincing (at least, as much as any sculpted electricity is going to be).

I really wish I could dig up them image but someone made lightning on Njal Stormcaller by using a small twig. The Ben's are natural and even though there was a lot there it was nicely executed.

I got this far. http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/442558.page
I since greenstuffed it up and put the project down and didn't pick it up. I just dusted it off, trimmed up the greenstuff and am priming it right now. Will post pics when it dries.
I wanted to make wings made of lightning for Raptors. This method is too labor intensive for ~20 wings. Looking for a simple way. I may just carve wings out of plasticard or something. At a loss, really.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Crappy phone pic of the trimmed and primed lightning.
