Hey all I'm trying to drum up a little bit more support for a pretty awesome looking model that I think would make a great center piece for a Nurgle Demon army in 40k or Fantasy. It needs a few more supporters to be successful.

There is also some terrain he's working on to go along with the project (looks like a Nurgly version of the Aegis Defense Line).

Here's a picture of the model:

Here's a link to the Kickstarter page: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1889075604/the-great-squid-demon-of-chaos-miniature

Please check it out!

That looks fairly good in the pictures, but given its size, the detail level is comparatively low.

Sorry, I don't see that being worth $90. It's not bad but the price point is way too high. Ultraforge's Greater War Daemon can be had for $70 and the Greater Plague Daemon for $62. While yours is certainly larger, it's simply not as detailed.

I think you should definitely try again though if your KS doesn't succeed! Either increase the sculpting level on the master, or drop the price point a hair.

I think the person behind the KS should try to build some reputation off-Kickstarter before you go Kickstarter again.

I see that the text is rather frank about this being his first foray into sculpting more or less. But Kickstarters run of reputation a lot (after all, there are no safety mechanism to prevent you just bagging the cash and running as you would have with a more regular order/sales contract).

Do some smaller sculpts you can fund without KS. Do a small niche-online store to attract yourself a small group of nurgle-affeciando-fans who can vouch for your skills and ability to deliver. Than go Kickstarter with some more ambitious projects.

Vesper-On Games recently had a successful Indiegogo that was build around funding a big, $85,- miniature.

But they had lots of smaller miniatures from their portfolio to buff up the campaign though, free pdf of their award-winning rules, some smaller sculpts for stretch-goals and the reputation of a niche-miniature company all going for them. With all that, they got 24 people to dish out $85 for the big center-piece miniature (i.e. $ 2040,- on the large guy alone + some $ 7000,- on the other stuff).

Zweischneid's observations and advice are very good...
We could certainly use some sci-fi/Nurgle style zombies...
Do up 5-10 of these and perhaps some smaller original Nurglesque demons, then start selling them.

Good points and I can't argue with them. I don't know the guy doing the Kickstarter I just really thought the model was cool. I've backed a number of projects (around 12 or so) on Kickstarter now and my criteria is a little different. I look to see if the person is capable of doing what they promise. Adam (the Kickstarter guy) has shown he's technically capable. You can see that he's completed the molds and wants to actually improve the model and molds. If you visit his FB page you can see other work he's done and he seems to be quite good at mold work (I myself am so-so at it so I can tell he's far better than me).

I'm not a believer in the "start small" in everything in life. This project of his doesn't seem very difficult, as a matter of fact he's already done it. He's trying to improve it and make it easier to mass produce.

That being said there is risk in every Kickstarter project as well as everything in life. Just my two cents.
