I think the person behind the
KS should try to build some reputation off-Kickstarter before you go Kickstarter again.
I see that the text is rather frank about this being his first foray into sculpting more or less. But Kickstarters run of reputation a lot (after all, there are no safety mechanism to prevent you just bagging the cash and running as you would have with a more regular order/sales contract).
Do some smaller sculpts you can fund without
KS. Do a small niche-online store to attract yourself a small group of nurgle-affeciando-fans who can vouch for your skills and ability to deliver. Than go Kickstarter with some more ambitious projects.
Vesper-On Games recently had a successful
Indiegogo that was build around funding a big, $85,- miniature.
But they had lots of smaller miniatures from their portfolio to buff up the campaign though, free pdf of their award-winning rules, some smaller sculpts for stretch-goals and the reputation of a niche-miniature company all going for them. With all that, they got 24 people to dish out $85 for the big center-piece miniature (i.e. $ 2040,- on the large guy alone + some $ 7000,- on the other stuff).
