So since dark vengeance came out, my chosen marines from the normal box don't really stand out as much, was wondering if anybody has some ideas
to make them a bit more in line with the chosen from dark vengeance? Here is a pic of one of my guys

Excuse the lousy paintjob

Any ideas?

Well, first off Chosen have Bolt Pistol, Close Combat Weapons and Bolters (barring upgrades), and while that was true of Chaos Space Marines too when they were released, there weren't really enough parts to represent it. The DV Chosen have all three weapons, so the first thing to do would be to get together enough bits to give them all their associated equipment - it'll go a long way to improving their look and making them more "Choseny". Same with grenades - they all have them, so salvage some bits and give them their grenades

Another thing that sets chosen apart is their weaponry - the DV chosen all have unique weapons, so spend some time adding extra details to them before adding them to the model - something simple like adding a scope or some 3rd party conversion parts will do fine (I recommend Anvil Industry and Zinge Industries, especially for scopes and ammo mags) - or you can go further and cut up some bolters to make them look different. Same goes for CCWs. GW produce a ton of models with close combat weapons, they don't all have to be Chainswords (and they don't all have to be chaos ones either - an Imperial Guard chainsword will look kind of cool, as it's a lot more slender)

With the amount of weaponry and the style of weaponry done you can concentrate on the Chosen themselves. One of the best parts about the DV chosen, IMO, is the backpacks. I love them - the quad vents and little details are great. You can either try to replicate this by converting them, or just buy up some from ebay (none on there at the moment though). Some kind of conversion work on the backpacks is a good start - I cut the "stems" off mine so they come out slightly chunkier than regular Marine ones, then set about adding details like close combat weapons.to it

As for the main body, poses are a good way of marking out Chosen. the DV ones are all in fairly dynamic poses, so a few minutes of clipping, pinning and greenstuffing can make a difference.

Helmet swaps are a good way to show up Chosen too - the helmets from the Warp Talons/Raptors box look a lot like the horned ones from the DV kit, so buying those from a bits seller is a good idea, or you could go another route and use some more 3rd party bits, or bits from other kits (space marine command squads are great for helmets)

For other armour parts, tiny conversions work best. I'd also recommend pressmolding some surface details from other models to put on the chest armour and legs.

Once you've done all that you'll have unique weapons, helmets, backpacks, armour & poses that you can combine to turn into a squad of impressive Chosen.

Big and fancy hats. The bigger and fancier the hat, the more important that person is.
