Hey guys so I have played lizardmen before and I know orcs and lizardmen are similiar and I am looking to get back into fantasy. I would be starting from scratch even with lizardmen since I sold mine a while back. suggests on lists for both and maybe pros and cons would be great. and some tactics for each army

Thanks

Slann are some of the best casters in the game. Saurus are some of the best heavy infantry in the game. Their salamanders are some of the best...flamey lizard things in the game. Skinks are cheap poisoners. But beyond that, I don't think they have all that much.

O&G are horde. For their cost they can put down a lot of dmg. They have really cheap war machines that are unreliable. They have a lot of silly units like fanatics and manglers and pump wagons and doom divers. They attack themselves. They got a mega spider that does horrific damage. They got the cheapest trolls in the game and could actually make an army of them. They have the cheapest collection of Str 5 units available in Squigs/trolls.

Lizardmen need an update, but they still are one of the top armies in the game currently. Slaan Mage-Priest is just insane. By far the best caster in the game. Though all and all lizardmen dont have a terribly amazing ranged game they are fast and can beat things up pretty well. Salamanders are probably the best monster in the game, next to hydra.

With orcs and goblins you get a lot of cool options and variety in your army. Most things in the book are actually playable. The main thing is you have to worry a bit about animosity and low leadership. Goblins are pretty amazing at running away in terror, and even better at dieing to s3 scrubs, but much like skaven theres tons of them.

Overall lizardmen will win you the most games, specially if you are just getting back into the game, also their battalion box is pretty useful overall (though saurus calvary suck pretty bad). Orcs and Goblins are a good choice no doubt but theres a bigger learning curve, you will be spending a lot more money for an army, and their magic isn't the most amazing.

Best comparison, Lizarmen if you like magic and are ok with playing a list that most other lizardmen players use. Orcs and Goblins if you want a wide variety of troops and the ability to have endless options of army builds and more than 2-3 builds that work.

10k+ High Elf
6.5k Dwarf
7k Original Chaos Dwarf (not the crappy forge world)
6k Bretonnia
7k Wood Elf
6k Dark Elf
8k Tomb Kings
5k Beastmen
5k Lizardmen
7k Daemons of Chaos (roughly 2.5k all but Tzeentch, I find them useless in 8th other than flamers and heralds)
5.5k Empire

IMO get a slann if you can afford it. Saurus Warriors are good, low Initiative means they attack last (in most cases) but 2 attacks for a strong and tough warrior (not to mention cold-blooded, scaly skin and a shield). Saurus Cavalry aren't bad either. Skink skirmishers are also cheap in points and good for filling points on your roster, acting as meat-shields, and get a few kills (plus they're aquatic which can help if you have water terrain). Kroxigors are also fun to play with because they're like a warrior with more wounds and attacks. I got some terradons when I first started with Lizardmen because they looked cool, but in my experience they aren't worth it, their 2 wounds usually go quick, if you want javelins just spend the 20-some odd points that you would have per terradon, on skink skirmishers.

WAAAGH!!!
