I picked up some Orks yesterday and I want to choose one of the clans and stick with it, not sure which one to choose.

Which clan do most people prefer?
Is there a "standard" or "basic" clan that is the most common? (like ultramarines or something)
Which clan do you see painted the most?

Why would that matter? Just pick a clan that looks cool to you, or figure out a unique paintscheme

Allot of people make up there own and use bits of inspiration from the main clans for each bit of there force (evil suns trukks, goff boys, etc). Other people do all there own thing.

With orks there is no real "standard". Standard would be un orky! Orks players like to all do there own thing, like orks.

The Goffs and Bad Suns are the most common clans in my area, but most of the Ork players here tend to go for kults rather than clans, with the kult of speed (Speed freaks) being by far the most common.

If you can get hold of a copy of gorkamorka, it's a pretty cool insight into ork i think. Gives a detailed look at them.

From what I've seen around the interwebs, Evil Sunz/Kult of Speed are the most common, followed by Bad Moons. Death Skulls come in third, then Goffs (surprising, considering how many folks prime black and find the amount of boys to paint daunting - with Goffs, that's half the work done!) Snakebites are nearly nonexistent - I've seen more blue or red skinned Orks, let alone those with DIY clothes/accessory schemes. than I have Snakebites.

Granted, my sample pool is far from evenhanded, so I can't be sure just how representative it is. Personally, I'm going the "match unit type with associated clan" route, both for identification on the table (if I ever get around to playing) and variety in painting and display.

I originally went with Bad Moons because I figured the most popular clans would be Goffs (Black) and Evil Sunz (Red). Now I am seeing Bad Moons pop up all over the place so it really depends I guess.

If you want to be original go with the Snake Bites or some Blood Axes with looted guns and a cool camo paint job.

You mean Bad Moons

Id say Goffs, BadMoons and Speed Freaks would be pretty much tied.

Actually I meant Evil Sunz (in my area), lol, but good catch.

Goffs and Bad Moonz for my area, I love the Bad Moonz myself but DESPISE all the layering to make a quality yellow armor. Bad Moonz is only on here because I am the only one who used them in my area. Everyone gets to the Goff black paint stage and calls it a job well done and goes to WWAAAAAGH!

thanks in large part to Iyanden dark sun, Bad Moons are easier to paint, and thus a lot more popular.

Allright, I think I'm going to go with Evil Sunz, red looks more Orky.
I like the fluff surrounding the Bad Moons clan, but the bright yellow paint doesn't look quite as menacing as rusty red.

Thanks for your help

Goffs (partly because it's the GW Studio's 'official' poster clan for Orks), Red Sunz/Speed Freaks and Bad Moonz (despite how difficult yellow is to paint). Deffskulls are also relatively popular too.

It's the Snakebites and Blood Axes I hardly ever see.

i have my own clan i havent named but the two primary colours are red and ultramarine blue.

some of my vehicles have hidden ultramarine or blood angels sigs from the salvaged scrap.

look thru my gallery orks are great as you can do whatever you want. they will club together when hoomans need splattin but will then beat the sh*t outta one another when the deal is done.

Yeah I noticed that.
I don't really care for the Goffs as much, they aren't very eye-catching and I don't really like to paint black so much.

Mine are actually Blood Axes. With a uniform non uniformity.

Im Badmoon, I'd agree with
1) Goffs (Grey and Black cloths and shun Technoligies Rather fight)
2) Badmoon (Yellow and Black love Technology and have more teef (Money))
3) Evil Suns (Red and Black love vehicles faster and faster)
4) Deff Skullz (Grey and Blue love looting taking what they deserve)
5) Blood Axes (Red... but mainly Orky imperial gaurd... so just more civilised orks)
6) SnakeBites (Brown the good old boys shun all technology and mainly are grot and squig herderz (like primitives)
--)Freebooters (mainly pirates per fluff but its whatever you want them to be)

I think just choose your paint scheme per what you want to play as... in 2nd edition orks you choose models by clan so if i wanted a warbuggie it would be evil sunz and if you wanted mega nobz they'd be bad moon, etc. Thats how I painted my army, all factions have a badmoon symbol but are painted per their clan.
